Title: School Transport Plan

1
School Transport Plan
  • This year we are trying to encourage our school
community to use more sustainable forms of
transport in their journeys to and from school

2
Cycling to school
  • We have tried to encourage people to walk
  • to school in a variety of ways
  • New Cycle racks have been put into the school
    bike sheds
  • Cycling Proficiency has been brought forward for
    Year 6
  • Cycling Proficiency has been introduced for
pupils in Years 4 and 5.

3
Walking to School
  • We want to make walking a safe and viable
  • option for members of the school community
  • We have WOW (Walk once a Week) reward schemes for
pupils who make the effort to walk to school
  • We are trying to set up a series of Walking Bus
    route into school

4
Car Sharing Pool
  • It has been suggested that car sharing might
  • be a viable alternative form of transport
  • It will allow people to cut down on their car
journeys and free up time for parents
  • It will ease some of the parking issues around
the school entrance at the start and end of the
    day
  • If you are interested in getting involved, pick
up a form from the table in the hall

5
What next?
  • We would like to extend the waiting area outside
the school to allow all-weather shelter for
parents, improved seating and more bike racks
  • New notice boards to communicate details about
bus times, Walking Bus times and routes etc
  • New and additional routes for the Walking Bus
  • Breakfast Bike Days for pupils cycling into
    school

6
How can you help?
  • Become a Walking Bus helper and fill in a CRB
    form available from the office
  • Read the account of the car-sharing parent in
the hall and sign up to register your interest
  • Join in on our special event days i.e. Breakfast
Bike Days and encourage your child(ren) to use
their bike / walk more often.

7
Mind Awake School
  • As part of our work towards Eco-Schools
  • Green Flag status we have made links with
  • a school in Lusaka, Zambia

8
Facilities
  • The school has few recognisable resources other
    than the staff
  • A single usable classroom with a wall for a
    blackboard and no books.
  • Plastic bags are stuffed together to play a game
    of football
  • Staff are mainly unpaid and teach the children in
    their own time

9
What can we do?
  • We plan to collect used football shirts and send
them with some footballs. These will help them
run sports activities and provide additional
    clothes
  • We will send the proceeds from the Eco-Schools
edition of the Pupil Press to pay for a new roof
    for the school
  • We will ask pupils to offer their Change to make
a Change collecting coppers and small coins to
raise funds for the school (by the school
    entrance)

10
Eco-Schools
  • The school Eco-Schools team has been
  • selected and they have started a number of
  • projects, such as
  • Editing the Spring Pupil Press
  • Organising competitions in school
  • Leading a whole school assembly on Eco-Schools
  • Preparing an application for the Eco-Schools
    Green Flag award

11
School Grounds Development
  • In addition to this, they have submitted two
grants to funding bodies in an effort to install
a sculptural pond cover over the pond area
  • Finally, they have been heavily involved in the
development of the School Transport Plan

12
