2OUR CHURCH
SAN ANTONIO CHINESE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IS A
BIBLE BELIEVING, CHRIST-CENTERED CHURCH. IN
ADDITION TO BIBLICAL PREACHING EVERY SUNDAY, WE
HAVE BIBLE STUDIES EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT IN THE
COMFORTABLE HOMES OF CHURCH MEMBERS. OUR WEEKLY
AFTER SUNDAY WORSHIP ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BIBLE
STUDIES, CHINESE CULTURAL PROGRAMS AND SHORT
SEMINARS ON TOPICS OF INTEREST TO MEMBERS.
OUR CONGREGATION CONSISTS MAINLY OF A GROUP
OF CLOSELY KNITTED ETHNIC CHINESE FROM TAIWAN,
MAIN LAND CHINA AND OTHER SOUTHEAST ASIAN
COUNTRIES. WE STRIVE TO BE A CARING AND LOVING
CHURCH WHERE OUR LORDS COMMAND OF LOVING ONE
ANOTHER IS CARRIED OUT.
3OUR MISSION
OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE DEVOTED DISCIPLES FOR OUR
LORD JESUS CHRIST STARTING FROM SAN ANTONIO BUT
ULTIMATELY TO OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD. THOUGH
WE SEEK TO MINISTER MAINLY TO THE CHINESE
COMMUNITY, WE WELCOME, IN FACT, WE
ENCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM OTHER ETHNIC GROUPS TO JOIN
US IN WORSHIPPING AND SERVING JESUS CHRIST IN OUR
CHURCH
4Our Brief History
This church was started by Rev. William Lee in
February 1986. The church first met in the
premises of a Presbyterian church in San Antonio
but later moved to the premises of a Baptist
church at 802 Oblate Drive in July 1986. This
church became a United Methodist Church in 1988
and moved into the premises of a United
Methodist Church at 2740 Hunters Street. On
August 1, 1991 the church moved again. This time
the church moved to 4756 Research Dr. (Kyle
Center). It was in this place where the church
started a Chinese Cultural Center and a Chinese
School. Rev. Lee led this church till he
passed away in February 26, 1993.
5 In the middle of February 1993, Rev. Dale
Stewart, a retired United Methodist pastor
volunteered to help our church, coming every
Sunday to preach, to serve Holy Communion and
when needed to conduct baptismal, wedding and
funeral services. It was also in 1993 when our
church moved into the premises of the University
United Methodist Church at 5084 De Zavala Road.
On October 1994, Rev. Paul Yeun came to our
church. He partnered with Rev. Stewart in
carrying out the ministry of this church. It was
at this time when our church moved to our present
address at 6487 Whitby Road, the campus of The
Methodist Mission Home. This church was
reconstituted in 1998. The Southwest Texas
Conference invited Our current pastor, Samuel Yu,
to take charge of our church beginning from
January 1999.
6UNIQUENESS OF OUR CHURCH

- UNITED STATES
- 2. OUR CHURCH IS A GLOBAL EVANGELICAL
- CHURCH. THROUGH SHARING THE GOSPEL
- WITH MANY STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS
- FROM CHINA, TAIWAN AND OTHER ASIAN
- COUNTRIES WHO ATTEND OUR CHURCH
- WHILE IN SAN ANTONIO THE GOSPEL IS

- WHEN THEY RETURN TO THEIR HOME
- COUNTRIES OR RELOCATE TO OTHER
- AREAS.
7UNIQUENESS OF OUR CHURCH
3. WE USE CHINESE MANDARIN IN OUR SUNDAY
WORSHIP , BAPTISMAL HOLY COMMUNION, MEMORIAL
AND WEDDING SERVICES. 4. OUR CONGREGATION
CONSISTS OF NEW IMMIGRANTS WHO ARE NOT
FAMILIAR WITH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND
PROFESSIONALS IN CAREER TRANSITIONAL STAGES
(VISITING SCHOLARS, TRAINEES AND
STUDENTS) FROM CHINA, TAIWAN AND OTHER
SOUTHEAST ASIAN COUNTRIES.
8OUR IMPACT
AT LEAST 500 PEOPLE HAVE ATTENDED OUR
CHURCH SINCE ITS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS. MANY CAME AS
NON BELIEVERS. OVER THE YEARS, 50 HAVE BEEN
BAPTIZED, ONE DECIDED TO ATTEND SMU. OTHERS LEFT
OUR CHURCH AFTER RECEIVING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE,
TO TAKE BACK TO THEIR HOME COUNTRIES AND
OTHER PLACES THEY DECIDED TO RELOCATE. BECAUSE
OF OUR LIMITED RESOURCES OUR CHURCH CAN ONLY
PROVIDE VERY LIMITED SOCIAL SERVICES TO THE
CHINESE COMMUNITY IN THE SAN ANTONIO AREA. WE
HOLD ANNUAL FAMILY HEALTH FAIR TO ENABLE NON
ENGLISH SPEAKING CHINESE IN THE COMMUNITY TO
CONSULT WITH CHINESE SPEAKING PHYSICANS.
