3Time Management is a balancing act
- Study-------------------------Work-
----------------------Social Time - We all have the same amount of hours in a day and
we all have the same 2 types of time - Fixed Time-these are the times you cannot change
like your classes or appointments which occur at
the same time each day, week, month or year. - Flexible Time-these are times for events which
you have control over and you can adjust them if
your schedule needs to change.
4During your fixed times---its a good idea not to
schedule ANY activity during these times.
(remember the quality of your planning and study
time is more important than the quantity)
5Prioritize-make realistic goals
- Plan AHEAD!
- Dont over commit yourself and try to do too
much! (this leads to excessive stress) - Schedule every activity you do---write everything
down. - Allow for rest.
- Allow for interruptions. Its a good idea to
learn how to be flexible with your time.
6Advice from other college students
- On a recent blog (www.educationindex.net)
students wrote - Time management is such a crucial aspect every
student needs to know. Be it to manage time while
studying, day to day activities and mostly during
exams. Time is a key player in any students
life. - Using your time wisely will help you achieve
more success in your life.
7Tips
- Try to study same time each day. (weekends should
be fun but they are also a good time to review
your work or get organized prepare for the next
week) - Study most difficult material first.
- Use some type of planner/calendar for daily,
weekly, monthly, and semester activities
assignments. - Schedule time for rest breaks also!
8Use a Planner (one you can write in or use your
phones calendar)
- Be realistic with your to-do list
- Use of hi-lighters is recommended
- (ex use green for all Biology assignments)
- Include details in your calendar/planner/organizer
- List short-term goals (ex reading a chapter for
class tomorrow---daily and weekly goals) - List long-term goals (ex term paper---monthly
and semester goals) - Update it often. Set aside a day each week (ex
Sunday nights)
9 Use Hi-Lighters
- Pick a color to correspond with a subject.
Example green for Biology. - Fill out your planner on Sun. nights for the next
week or 2. - Make sure you list every assignment for every
class (this includes on-line classes) and
hi-light these with coordinating colors. - Using hi-lighters will make a quick glance at
your planner very useful. The colors will let
you know what to study for and what date an
assignment is due.
10Become the master of your time
- Your new time management habits can change how
you look at life! - If these skills are done correctly, you will have
more personal free time!
