didnt have microwave ovens, washing machines or
telephones? Today we are going to learn about
some people who invented, or made, some very
popular items that we use almost everyday both
at home and at school. Lets see if you can guess
what some of these people made.
3Ruth Handler invented something in 1959 that
young girls in America spend many hours playing
with.

Johnson when he invented the band-aid in 1921.
He was inspired to invent the band-aid by his
wife, Josephine Dickson, who was always cutting
her fingers in the kitchen while preparing food.

something that most people in Florida have in
their homes and cars. Here is your clue People
call him the Father of cool.

Mrs. Wakefield owned an Inn called the Toll House
Inn in Whitman Massachusetts. She made many
different desserts for her guests and one day
when making her favorite butter drop cookies she
added some semi sweet Nestle chocolate bits to
the batter. Much to her surprise the chocolate
did not melt and that was the beginning of the
original Toll House cookie.

something that almost every new mom uses.

that has become the best selling cookie of the
20th Century.

39This man is George Crum. He was a chef at a
resort in Sarasota Springs, New York. On August
24, 1835 he was the first person to make a
delicious snack using potatoes. Heres your

potato?
40Mr. Crum invented the first potato chip in
1835! Mr. Crums potato chips were called
Saratoga chips.
41This is Dr. John Stith Pemberton. Dr. Pemberton
invented a very popular soda on May 8, 1886 in
Atlanta, Georgia.
