GCISD celebrates 11 National Merit Semifinalists
  • Eleven GCISD high school students have been
    named semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit
    Scholarship Program.
  • The six semifinalists from CHHS are John Cody,
    Mallory Flowers, Lyndon Lee, Andrew Murray,
    Alexander Nasr and Joseph Yu.
  • The five semifinalists from GHS are Anjali
    Datta (three-year graduate), Alyssa Mannen,
    Christopher Newkirk, Emma Paynter and Jennifer
    Shi.

National Hispanic and National Achievement
students recognized
  • Steven Monacelli and Alejandro Oropeza, both
    Colleyville Heritage High School seniors, have
    been named National Hispanic Scholars.
  • Cameron Sow, senior at Grapevine High School,
    and Aaron Belcher and Daniel Dixon, both seniors
    at Colleyville Heritage High, have been named
    National Achievement Commended students.

2008-2009District Highlights
2008 ACT, SAT scores surpass state and national
totals
  • GCISD students continue to exceed state and
    national averages on both the ACT and SAT. On the
    ACT, GCISD students earned the highest composite
    score in the District in 11 years. On the SAT,
    students earned the highest score in math in 11
    years, and increased in writing over last year.
    In reading, the district average increased over
    last year and is the third highest score in 11
    years.

CHHS student creates state PTA theme, logo
  • Artwork created by Candace Gabel, a freshman at
    CHHS, has been selected as the Texas PTA
    Membership theme and logo for 2008-2009. Gabels
    visual arts piece is titled Be a hero! Join
    PTA! illustrates the idea that I believe I can
    make a difference by being a volunteer. This
    piece placed first in the campus, district and
    area Reflections Art Contest for 2008, and second
    in the state competition. Gabel created the
    artwork as an eighth-grade student at Heritage
    Middle.

Student-teacher calendar survey being conducted
  • Student/teacher calendar options A and B for
    the 2009-2010 school year have been
    developed, both with a start date of Monday,
    August 24, 2009. An online survey is being
    conducted September 26-October 12, 2008, (1159
    p.m.) to determine community preference for
    calendar option A or B. Log on to
    www.gcisd-k12.org and click on the calendar
    survey to provide your input!
  • Results and a calendar recommendation are
    expected to be presented at the Oct. 27 Board of
    Trustees meeting.
