make sure that you have the right safety
equipment.

back of your bike if you are cycling at night.
9Be a Responsible Road User
- Wherever possible use cycle paths instead of the
road. - If you cannot use a cycle path, ride carefully on
the left hand side of the road. Make sure that
cars can overtake you but do not ride too close
to the pavement. - Always ride single file.
10Be a Responsible Road User
- Never ride with two people on a bicycle.
- Keep two hands on the handlebars at all times
unless you are signalling. - Do not cycle on the road unless you have had
training.
11While you are on the street
While you are playing outside you may have to
cross the road, here are some tips from the Green
Cross Code on how to stay safe.
12The Green Cross Code
- Find a safe place to cross the road.
- When you want to cross the road stop just before
you get to the kerb but not too close to the
road. - Look both ways for approaching traffic or
cyclists and listen carefully. - Cross only once it is safe and keep looking
whilst you cross.
13And Remember
To get to the park
To get your football
Even if you are in a hurry
Or to get to the Ice cream van
To see your friends
14Always
Look both ways and make sure to walk, not run
across the road!
15Recognising Signs
- On almost every street there are a number of
road signs which are intended to help keep not
only drivers but pedestrians, horse riders and
cyclists safe. Here are a few simple tips which
will help you to understand what they mean.
16Look At The Shape
- The shape of the sign can give us an idea of what
the sign is trying to tell us straight away - Circular signs give instructions.
- Triangular signs give warnings.
