3SILICONES CAN BE MORE THAN PROCESSING AIDS
A novel silicone additive concept to provide a
well balanced property portfolio to thermoplastic
compounds
- Improved processing and flow
- Elimination of melt fracture and die build-up
- Better mold filling and mold release
- Improved surface lubricity and slip
- Better abrasion resistance and lower CoF
- Improvement of elongation and impact strength
- No negative impact on modulus, hardness, softening
4SILICONES ARE UNIQUE
- High thermal stability
- Very low glass transition temperature (Tg 124
C), therefore high flexibility at low
temperatures - Chemically inert and of low reactivity
- Low surface tension (20 mN/m), therefore high
surface and interface activity
5THE NEW SILICONE ADDITIVE CONCEPT FOR
THERMOPLASTIC COMPOUNDING
- GENIOPLAST Pellets
- translucent cylindrical pellets 4mm dia.
- unique formulation ultra high molecular weight
silicone and high surface area pyrogenic silica - highly effective silicone additive
- all-round compatibility with resins
- easy to dose
- no migration
- excellent mechanics
- flame retardant synergist
6THE NEW SILICONE ADDITIVE CONCEPT FOR
THERMOPLASTIC COMPOUNDING
- GENIOPLAST Pellet S
- is recommended for technical applications
- GENIOPLAST Pellet P
- is the corresponding food compliant grade
7GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE PROCESSING
- Reduction of torque for polyolefins with and
without mineral filler
8GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE FLOW PROPERTIES
- Reduction of melt viscosity of polyolefin
compounds containing mineral filler
9GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
- Improvement of Charpy notched impact strength of
polyolefin compounds containing mineral filler
10GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
- Improvement of elongation at break of polyolefin
compounds containing mineral filler
11GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE SURFACE PROPERTIES
- Improvement of abrasion of polyolefin compounds
containing mineral filler
12GENIOPLAST PELLETS IMPROVE FLAME RETARDANT
PROPERTIES
- GENIOPLAST Pellets can work as flame retardant
synergist in polyolefin compounds containing
flame retardant fillers
13GENIOPLAST PELLETS ARE MORE THAN PROCESSING AIDS
- Well balanced properties can be achieved,
particularly for mineral filled polyolefin
compounds - Specific System Examples
- - Polyolefin compounds containing flame retardant
filler e.g. for cable or extruded sheet
application - - Polyolefin compounds containing mineral filler
(calcium carbonate, talc) e.g. for applications
in automotive, white goods, appliances, or pipes
14BENEFITS THAT GENIOPLAST PELLETS CAN BRING TO A
HFFR CABLE COMPOUND
LDPE/ATH (60) Model System
15BENEFITS THAT GENIOPLAST PELLETS CAN BRING TO AN
AUTOMOTIVE COMPOUND
TPO (PP/EPDM) 20 Talc Model System
16BENEFITS THAT GENIOPLAST PELLETS CAN BRING TO A
COMPOUND FOR WHITE GOODS / APPLIANCES
PP/Talc (40) Model System
17BENEFITS THAT GENIOPLAST PELLETS CAN BRING TO A
PIPE COMPOUND
HDPE/CaCO3 (40) Model System
18CONCLUSION
GENIOPLAST Pellets can improve
- processing (reduce torque)
- flow (reduce melt viscosity)
- surface properties (improve abrasion, reduce
CoF) - mechanical properties (elongation, impact)
- in polyolefin compounds containing mineral filler
- without any negative impact on modulus,
hardness, and softening temperature
19CONCLUSION
In addition, GENIOPLAST Pellets
- can work as flame retardant synergist
- improve flame retardant properties
in polyolefin compounds containing flame
retardant filler

23UL94 and LOI in Brief (Source ides.com)
- UL 94 Procedure (ASTM D3801-06) A specimen is
supported in a vertical position and a flame is
applied to the bottom of the specimen. The flame
is applied for ten seconds and then removed until
flaming stops at which time the flame is
reapplied for another ten seconds and then
removed. Two sets of five specimens are tested.
The two sets are conditioned under different
conditions. V0Specimens must not burn with
flaming combustion for more than 10 seconds after
either test flame application. V1Specimens must
not burn with flaming combustion for more than 30
seconds after either test flame application. V2
Specimens must not burn with flaming combustion
for more than 30 seconds after either test flame
application. - LOI Procedure (ASTM D2863-06a) The minimum
concentration of oxygen that will just support
flaming combustion in a flowing mixture of oxygen
and nitrogen. A specimen is positioned vertically
in a transparent test column and a mixture of
oxygen and nitrogen is forced upward through the
column. The specimen is ignited at the top. The
oxygen concentration is adjusted until the
specimen just supports combustion. The
concentration reported is the volume percent. -
