MELSHIZEDEK

• Verses 1-10
• King of Salem, priest of Most High God.
• Met Abraham returning from battle.
• He blessed Abraham
• Abraham gave him a tenth of all the spoils.
• Without father, without mother, without
  genealogy, having neither beginning of days or
  end of life, like the Son remains a priest
  continually.

How great he was

• Abraham is the father of the Jewish family.
• His descendant, Levi had the priesthood to come
  from their family.
• They received tithes from the people according to
  the law.
• But Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek and was
  blessed by him showing he is greater than Levi or
  Abraham.

THE CHANGED PRIESTHOOD

• Verses 11-19
• If perfection had come through Levitical
  priesthood, there would have been no need for a
  change. It came with the Law.
• The priesthood being changed, it is necessary
  that there also be a change in the law.
• Christ was of tribe of Judah

• He couldnt have been a priest in the Old order.
• More important, He came after the order of
  Melchizedek to continue forever.
• Law annulled because of it weakness and
  unprofitableness.
• It made nothing perfect. The bringing in of a
  better hope does. In it we can draw near to God.

GREAT HIGH PRIEST

• Verses 20-28
• Made a High Priest by oath. The Lord swore and
  would not relent Christ is High priest forever
  after order of Melchizedek.
• By so much more Jesus has become a surety of a
  better covenant.
• In old system priest couldnt continue because of
  death.

• Christ has an unchangeable priesthood.
• Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost
  those who come to God through Him.
• Since He always lives
• To make intercession for them.
• Such a high priest was fitting for us
• Holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,
  has become higher than the heavens

• Does not need daily to offer up sacrifices, first
  for Himself then for the people.
• He did this once for all when He offered Himself.
• The Law appoints as high priests, men who have
  weaknesses.
• But the word of oath, which came after the law,
  appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.
