What is the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office?
  • The NSW Aboriginal Housing Office was formed on
    the 24th July 1998 under the NSW Aboriginal
    Housing Act 1998.
  • The NSW Aboriginal Housing Office has an all
    Aboriginal Board. The Board includes members
    from the community, ATSIC and the NSW Aboriginal
    Lands Council.
  • The AHO comprises a Head Office based in
    Parramatta, three Area Offices in Dubbo, Coffs
    Harbour and Parramatta and three Regional Offices
    in Wentworth, Tamworth and Nowra

Role of Regional Aboriginal Housing Committees
  • The role of the Regional Aboriginal Housing
    Committees is an advisory one to the AHO Board
    on the development of the Aboriginal housing
    programs and policies, and to establish effective
    links with ATSIC, Land Councils and other key
    stakeholders at the regional level. (RAHCs are
    established under Section 32 of the Aboriginal
    Housing Act 1998)

Registration and EOI
  • The Aboriginal Housing Act, 1998 requires
    organisations to be 'registered' with the AHO in
    order to receive funding assistance. To be
    registered organisations must be considered as
    Aboriginal Housing Organisations under the Act
    as well as provide other information as the AHO
    sees necessary.
  • If Funding is being sought both Registration and
    EOI applications need to be returned by 25 July
    2003

    Aboriginal housing providers as possible.
    Registration can be obtained at any time during a
    12 month period

  • To be eligible to be considered for funding for
    new housing or non urgent repairs and
    maintenance, an organisation must meet the
    minimum performance level in 7 of the 10
    indicator areas. Three indicators are mandatory
    (i.e. must be met)
