God
  • Monotheistic religion
  • One God created and rules the world.
  • Omnipotent (all powerful),
  • Omniscient (all knowing)
  • Omnipresent (in all places at all times).
  • The Messiah will be a person from the family of
King David, who will lead the world to unity and
    peace.
  • Do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah.

4
Holy Land
  • Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael)
  • Covenant made between God and the Jewish People
    at Mount Sinai.

    more God will love us.

Traditions/Ceremonies
  • Birth and Naming Ceremonies
  • First Sabbath after a child is born, the father
recites the aliyah at the synagogue. If the child
is a girl, she is named at this time. Boys are
named on the eighth day after birth, as part of
the rite of circumcision (Brit Milah).
  • Redemption of the Firstborn The ritual of Pidyon
Ha-Ben ("Redemption of the Son") is from the
concept that first and best things belong to God.
  • Coming of Age Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Upon turning
13, a boy is considered an adult under the law
and is expected to obey all the commandments from
then on. Similarly, a girl becomes a Bat Mitzvah,
"daughter of the commandment," upon turning 12.

12
  • Jewish Marriage Traditions. Celibate life is not
considered more holy than the married life. One
must be married in order to become a rabbi. This
view of marriage is a result of the view of the
home and family as the center of religious life.
  • Divorce in Judaism According to the Talmud, "When
a man puts aside the wife of his youth, even the
very altar weeps." Yet divorce have always been a
    part of Jewish law.
  • Death Rituals and the Chevra Kaddisha The
preservation of life is of great importance,
death is seen as a part of life and a part of
    God's plan.
  • Mourning Rituals dont show a protest of death,
it shows respect for the dead, discourages
    excessive mourning,
  • Mourning is observed for 30 days after
burial, more so in the first seven days.
