Title: Dear Parents,
1Academy News
Friday 18th July 2008
- Dear Parents,
- I cannot believe I have come to the end of my
first term at Burlington Danes. I have enjoyed
this term so much and I do believe we have
achieved a lot. We have had numerous successes
and the children seem to be really progressing in
all sorts of ways. - Some notable achievements were the Year 11 Prom
(thanks to Ms Bell and Ms Okezie), our Summer
Concert (thanks to Ms Smith and the Music and
Dance department), our end of term play (thanks
Ms Clements and Ms Davies) and all our trips. In
addition, all pupils have taken end of year
examinations and have received a position in the
year group. These exams have been set and marked
by subject staff with results displayed on notice
boards throughout the school. These results will
be sent to every parent before the beginning of
next term. - All year groups have had a Parents Evening and
all existing parents have been given a free
blazer and school bag voucher redeemable at
Sogans in Hammersmith (tel 020 7385 1055). If any
parents have not received these the lists are now
at Sogans and parents should go to the shop with
identification. Please remember all pupils must
wear a blazer and a school bag in September. Year
11, only, have the privilege of being allowed
their own school bag. Please note also that
girls trousers must be blue, boys trousers
charcoal grey and all shoes must be plain black
kickers and trainers are not allowed. Girls
skirts should be box pleat and knee length or
longer. School coats should be plain navy or
black with no logos. Year 7 have a new uniform
and other pupils throughout the Academy are
welcome to wear it. - There are lots of exciting changes happening
throughout the Academy over the summer. The
Burlington block will be completely refurbished
and we will establish a new school library. In
addition, all our ICT facilities will be updated.
The phone system is being overhauled as that has
been a real source of complaint and I hope
parents will see the difference. In October the
new block will open and that will provide
fantastic new facilities. - I would like to thank you, the parents, so much.
Without exception you have been supportive of me
and I have really taken strength from your trust.
I hope you know that the pupils happiness and
achievement is paramount to me and that I share
this with all of you. - I look forward to the new school year with great
optimism and I know our school will go from
strength to strength. - Best wishes
- Sally Coates

Principals Commendation for Endeavour
Ben Currie in Year 8 earns the Principals
commendation this week. In Monday mornings
Science lesson his usual teacher was on a course.
Ben set a great example to others by working
really hard even without his normal teacher. His
motivation and discipline enabled him to produce
an excellent piece of work on how epidemics are
spread. Well done Ben!

3Year By Year
Year 7
Year 8
The main event for Year 8 this week was,
undoubtedly, the rewards trip to Chessington on
Wednesday. Highlights included Kaio winning a
prize on his first try at the basketball stand,
Carly getting drenched on Ramazes Revenge, and
Shamsideen, Gullet and Michael enjoying
themselves on the Bubble Works. We are already
planning the next rewards trip for the autumn
term. It is likely to be based on your merits and
demerits, but may also take in to account whether
you achieve your target levels in your subjects.
I wish you all a safe, fun and relaxing summer
holiday! Mr Benson
We have finally come to the end of the year and I
would like to congratulate you all for your hard
work. We have had a good year with some
excellent results. Special credit goes to Gemma
Smith for coming first in the year group in the
end of year exams. Well done! The students who
went to London zoo had a fantastic time as well
as the students who went ice skating yesterday
with Mr Fairbairn and myself. Abel Panzout was
nearly an expert at the end after a difficult
start! Enjoy your summer holidays and I look
forward to seeing you all in Year 8! Ms Aitken
Year 10
Year 9
- Year 10 ice skating trip on Tuesday afternoon was
a really successful one. Well done for being so
well behaved - look out for more trips next year. - As we all go off on our summer holidays, I would
like you to think about - What you want in life
- Where you want to go from here
- How you are going to achieve that.
- Your entire future as a successful person really
depends on how you reflect on these statements. - Remember to use your free time this summer to
sort out your uniform and school shoes so that
you look smart in September. - Happy holidays and stay SAFE!!!
- Ms. Annan
Well done to the 21 Students have been selected
to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze
Award starting in September, Subject assessment
results have now been released, so students can
start to set targets for the start of the GCSE
courses to see if they can climb the table.
Nationwide problems with the SATS exam papers
have caused a delay in the results being made
available, they should be with students very
soon. Well done for a very successful year!
Have a safe and restful summer and we look
forward to seeing you in September. Mr Jerred

Summer Production
Congratulations to the students involved in the
Summer Play, Bang Out of Order. The play was a
fantastic success, enjoyed by around 60 guests,
who helped us to raise just over 100 for London
charity, The Kids Company! The play went
brilliantly thanks to the hard work and
dedication of the students involved. Also look
out of a report of the play in the Hammersmith
Fulham news on July 29th!
7 students in Year 8 caught a glimpse of the
future on Wednesday when they visited De Montfort
University in Leicester. The trip had a
Science focus, with Dominic learning that the
best way to catch a criminal is not through DNA
evidence, like we see in the movies, but through
pollen evidence. Well done to Dominic
Sohotra-Fuge, Julian West, Saif Khaled, Sabina
Tagieva, Joshua Ware, Olivia Owusu and Khasbold
Ginjbold who were excellent ambassadors for the
academy.
BDA Sixth Form

Achieving Through Belief
5A Moment to Reflect
- Reaching the end of another eventful academic
year provides us all with an opportunity to
reflect on the progress we are making. Here we
meet students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 as they
look back on the year passed, and begin to look
forward to September.
Jordan Nagle, Year 7
Ala Burgeia, Year 8
I have really enjoyed PE this year we have
covered lots more sports than we did at Primary
school. In Year 8 I am looking forward to using
the facilities in the new building.
I have enjoyed my Science lessons in Year 8
because we have done lots of experiments. In
Year 9 I am looking forward to working with new
teachers and learning new things.
Karlem Dempster, Year 9
Chanel Wint, Year 10
I enjoyed our recent reward trip to Chessington
it was great to get away after so much hard
work this year! In Year 10 I am looking forward
to focusing on my Options courses that I have
chosen.
In Year 10 we have learnt about taking group
responsibility for our actions. I am looking
