Cathy came back from her sabbatical in the fall
of 1977 with a dog named after Champaign,
Illinois where she'd been. Chammy sat through
Convocation rehearsals in the amphitheatre that
weekend. I am not sure whether she agreed that
Wisdom is More Beautiful Than The Sun.

Spring Break 1978 Buffalo in March! Whee!
Buffalo, Toronto, Detroit, Toledo, Chicago.
Repertoire included Bartok's 'Village Scenes,'
and 'Young Collins' with no soprano left
un-soloed.

• Prepared with her wench costume for Glee
  Club's part in the entertainment associated with
  the inauguration of President Kennan. The theme
  of everything was medieval, in keeping with
  President Kennan's area of specialty, so we sang
  a medley from the musical 'Pippin'.

Sweden
Cathy hauled us all over northern Europe while 5
or 6 months pregnant with David. Of course it
didn't slow her down. You can see the domes of
the Kremlin in the background. Highlight music
from that trip was Samuel Barber's
'Reincarnations' (She is a rune").

sung in my life on the patios outside Peters
Palace, surrounded by marble stairs and gold
statues, looking through the fountains out to the
sea.

The day after our big concert in Stockholm was a
school holiday. All the schoolchildren gathered
in the park to play in the sun and to sing
together. Someone crowned Cathy with flowers. I
think most members of that tour group would agree
- Swedish was the most difficult language we had
ever tried to sing.

Cathy was my advisor so was occasionally invited
to dinner in my dorm. I remember that David
rolled over for the first time on the floor in
the Safford living room after one such dinner.
He had quite a cheering section.
