What are the roles of a TBW trip leader?
  • A team leader works with the assistance of TBW
    Coordinator to
  • For Communities and Destination of Choice trips
  • Communicate with the in-country host and TBW
    coordinator to ensure a well-organized,
    meaningful trip.
  • Help advertise and recruit team members. Solely
    responsible for interviewing and inviting all
    team members. Organize team member registration.
  • Assure/facilitate spiritual leadership, including
    devotions, scripture reading, reflection times,
    etc.
  • Provide expertise and skills needed in times of
    crisis.
  • Promote Thrivent Financial and Habitat for
    Humanity
  • For Destination of Choice trips only
  • Negotiate the itinerary, transportation, lodging,
    food, etc. with the host.
  • Create a budget that covers all work team
    expenses and donations.
  • Provide appropriate orientation materials for
    team members (i.e. cultural sensitivity, travel
    advice, passports and visas, goals, expectations,
    geography, politics, religion, logistics, health,
    safety and first aid).

  • Recruit potential team leaders and teams
  • Share TBW Community location(s)
  • Encourage potential team leaders to complete
    submit team proposal
  • Recommend/approve team proposals forward to TBW
    coordinator bacton_at_habitat.org
  • Promote RFO trips
  • Ensure all confirmed trips are complete
  • Replace cancelled trips within your region with a
    trip in same calendar year.

  • Actively work with Habitat affiliates to have
    them help spread the TBW message
  • Ask Thrivent chapter specialists and past team
    participants to put information in church
    newsletters, bulletins or make presentations
  • Focus on location with a local connection
  • Approach FRs personally
  • Approach former Thrivent Builds chapter
    specialists personally
  • Approach people and groups who may be new to
    "mission trip" idea
  • Finding a local leader to lead the charge
  • Once you have leaders, RFO should help them
    recruit participants
  • Ask local schools (especially Lutheran high
    schools or colleges). Many even have a Habitat
    campus chapters
