3Brownfield Definition
- A Brownfield is a property, the expansion,
redevelopment or reuse of which may be
complicated by the presence of a hazardous
substance, pollutant or contaminant.

- Purpose
- To empower states, communities and other
stakeholders in economic redevelopment by reusing
brownfields. - Four goals
- Protecting the human health and the environment
- Promoting partnerships
- Promoting economic redevelopment
- Promoting sustainable reuse

- The Brownfields Law
- Provides up to 200 million per year for the
Program. - Provides grants for assessments, revolving loan
funds, and direct cleanups. - Expands the entities, properties, and activities
eligible for the brownfields grants. - Expands Program applicability to site with
petroleum contamination. - Provides authority for brownfields training,
research and technical assistance.
