Brownfield Definition
  • A Brownfield is a property, the expansion,
    redevelopment or reuse of which may be
    complicated by the presence of a hazardous
    substance, pollutant or contaminant.

  • To empower states, communities and other
    stakeholders in economic redevelopment by reusing
    brownfields.
  • Four goals
  • Protecting the human health and the environment
  • Promoting partnerships
  • Promoting economic redevelopment
  • Promoting sustainable reuse

  • The Brownfields Law
  • Provides up to 200 million per year for the
    Program.
  • Provides grants for assessments, revolving loan
    funds, and direct cleanups.
  • Expands the entities, properties, and activities
    eligible for the brownfields grants.
  • Expands Program applicability to site with
    petroleum contamination.
  • Provides authority for brownfields training,
    research and technical assistance.
