community of 333 (Fall 07) outstanding scholars
seeking an enhanced educational experience.
3Missouri ST Honors Academy

- Honors Academy students are recognized for their
academic excellence and are provided with - individualized attention
- leadership opportunities
- faculty interaction
- participation in special projects
- Involvement in undergraduate research, service
learning and other beneficial experiences
4Honors Qualifications
- Incoming freshmen are eligible to apply if
- Their ACT score is 29 or higher/SAT is 1440 or
above, - They rank in the top 10 of their high school
class or have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
5Honors Qualifications
- Incoming transfer students and students currently
enrolled at Missouri ST are eligible to apply
if - They have a minimum GPA of 3.5,
- A minimum of 24 graded, college-level credits
- Transfer students may transfer in up to 6 hours
of honors course credit

- There is no Perfect Honors Academy Plan
- BUT, it is structured to work easily into a
four-year plan - Freshman Year New Student Honors Seminar
- Sophomore Junior Years
- 4 semesters 4 Honors Courses
- Senior Year Senior Honors Thesis Project
- You construct your Honors Academy schedule and
participation however you would like. - It is ALL about YOU!
8New Student Honors Seminar
- To participate in Honors Academy, students
participate in the New Student Honors Seminar
their first year at UMR.
9New Student Honors Seminar
- The 2007-2008 New Student Honors Seminar is the
BEST EVER! - In 06/07 we tripled enrollment and doubled the
events. - IN 07/08 we are maintaining the momentum for the
172 new students with - More Distinguished Speakers
- Social Events
- Etiquette Dinner
- Gala Honors Formal Banquet
- A trip for student researchers to the National
Collegiate Honors Council Conference in Denver
Colorado.

11New Student Honors Seminar
- To participate, students enroll for HONORS
SEMINAR during their PRO session or during the
first weeks of classes. - (Transfer students may join New Student Honors
Seminar during either the Fall or Spring
semester.) - Â
12NEW RC Course PilotHonors Academy Living
Learning(HALL)
- Designed to bring first-year Honors Academy
students together to create an enhanced
intellectual atmosphere by developing a living
and learning culture. Â The course is designed to
create life-long learning habits, foster growth
and nurture success.
13Honors Course Work
- (Sophomore-Senior Year)

- Following their first year, Honors Academy
students maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 to
continue participation in the program. -
- Honors Academy students enroll in and complete
15 total credit hours of Honors course work - 12 hours of Honors contractual course work
- 3 hours of Senior Thesis Project
14Honors Contract Courses
- (Sophomore-Senior Year)
- The Honors course designation is contractual
and based on extra work (approximately 20 hours)
conducted in regular UMR courses wherein the
instructor agrees to approve and oversee the
effort. - The contract forms are available on the Honors
Academy website and must be received by the
Honors Coordinator by Friday of the second week
of classes to be considered for approval. -
- Course requirements
- One course must be outside of the major field of
study. - No more than 3 credit hours may be individual
study courses - (300, 302 390).
15Senior Thesis
- (Senior Year)
- Honors Academy students complete 3 hours of
Senior Thesis/Project. - All Senior Thesis projects culminate in a
scholarly, bound thesis. The work is approved and
overseen by individual faculty mentors. Completed
projects are presented to the Honors Committee. - The contract form and detailed guidelines are
available on the Honors Academy website.
16Honors Distinctions
- Honors Academy students who maintain a 3.5 GPA
or better and have at least 15 credit hours of
Honors course credits, may apply to graduate as
an - Honors Academy Fellow.

- The application form and deadlines are are
available on the Honors Academy website. - This distinction will be noted on their
diploma, transcript and commencement program.
