8Overview of Rotary
- Rotary is an International organization, started
by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1904. - There are 32,000 Rotary clubs in the world with
1.2 million members. - At the International level Rotary is broken down
into zones, the zones divided into Districts. - We are in District 5050 29 clubs in Canada, 28
in the United States.
9Overview of Rotary (cont.)
- District 5050 is broken into 10 areas. We are
area G. Areas are governed by a District Governor
who reports to Zone Directors. - Area G has 7 clubs. Two Oak Harbor clubs, two
clubs in Anacortes, La Conner, San Juan Island
and our club. An Assistant Governor is assigned
to each area to act on behalf of the District
Governor. - Each Rotary club works differently due to size.
10Overview of Rotary (cont.)
- Our Club works like this
- The board of directors governor the club.
Unless a matter has to be voted on by the full
membership the board of directors make the
decisions. Board meetings are held each month and
members of the club can attend. You do not have
voting privileges but are able to speak at the
meetings. - Members are required to attended no less than 50
of the regular weekly meetings. Attendance at
board, special and committee meetings count
toward required attendance when attended within
two weeks of the missed meetings.
11The Four Way Test
- 1. Is it the truth?
- 2. Is it fair to all concerned?
- 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned
