February Kindergarten News
Getting Ready for 1st Grade By this time of
the school year your child should be able to
identify all the letters (upper and lower case)
and their sounds. He/she should be able to write
all letters with correct formation. He/she
should be able to write his/her thoughts in a
complete sentence independently using words that
he/she knows and sounding out words he/she
doesnt know. We have worked diligently on
spacing between words, using punctuation,
beginning a sentence with a capital letter and
using resources in the classroom to help spell
words correctly. Your child should be able to
read and recognize all the words on our Word
Wall. Your child should be able to count to 100,
write numbers using correct formation and match
objects and numbers. Your support and
reinforcement at home will help your child be
ready for 1st grade.
What we are learning this month . . . Reading
using beginning reading strategies to read more
successfully and independently, Non-fiction,
authors purpose, parts of a non-fiction book,
Writing writes for a variety of purposes,
makes stories and illustrations match, evaluate
own writing, write from left to right and top to
bottom, using spaces between words, using
puncuation Social Studies Valentines,
Presidents, Patriotism, Texas Math 2D and 3D
shapes Phonics word families, making words
100 Days in School! We will be celebrating 100
days in school this month. Part of your childs
homework is to create a poster that has 100
objects on it. Please use 100 of the same item.
Children can use anything they want stickers,
pennies, sticks, stamps. . . (please no food
items) This should be a poster created by your
child. Please use items that will stay stuck to
a poster board! Placing objects in groups of 10
to count to 100 makes counting much easier!

Valentines Day is upon us! We will exchange
Valentines! Attached you will find our class
list. Please have your child address the front
of each envelope and sign the back of each
Valentine. Please make sure that your child
includes all classmates when addressing his/her
Valentines. We want to make sure that no
feelings are hurt. Please send an extra
Valentine just in case we add a new student!
Valentines due February 10th. Valentine Boxes
Please help your child cover an empty cereal box
(or other box similar in size) with the paper
that he/she brings home on February 8th. Please
remove the top of the box so that Valentines can
be placed in the box! Please put your childs
name on the bottom of the box and return the box
on February 9th. Please DO NOT decorate the box
at home we will decorate them at school.
Field Trip We will be going to the Majestic
Theatre on Monday, March 2nd to see a live
performance of If You Give A Pig A Pancake and
other stories. We will go to Kids Korral for
lunch after the performance. Children will need
to bring a sack lunch and drink on this day.
Please sign and return the attached permission
slip. We have a very limited number of
additional tickets for parents. If you would
like your name to be put in a drawing to go as a
chaperone please complete the form below. We
will also need parents to meet us at the park to
help supervise.
