Sideline Management cont.
  • Coaches and non-players shall not be on the field
of play at the snap of the ball or during a live
    ball play.
  • The sidelines on the chain crew side of the
field, must be kept clear to allow freedom of
movement for the chain crew and linesman (6 ft.)
  • Why coaches should help? better coverage, less
chance of injury to all, pace of play, increased
    focus for officials
  • How can coaches help? get back coach, keep
all players back, set up designated areas for
subs, special teams etc.., stay behind the wing
and off the field before snap others?

11
Advantage/Disadvantage
  • Some penalties could be called on every play
  • The flow of the game and all would be effected
  • Calling a foul point of attack, effect on the
    play
  • May be a late flag let play develop
  • Examples
  • QB looks right, throws right, left split is held
  • DLT is held as he sacks the QB
  • USC and PFs (hitting a player out of the play,
clips or safety issues must always be called)
  • Following pages on unsportsmanlike conduct (USC)

More examples advantage/disadvantage
  • End and db hand checking each other going out for
    a pass
  • Db puts his hand out and end does not break
    stride to catch a pass
  • "Holding" should either gain an advantage, or
somehow place an opponent at a disadvantage or
restrict him (bear hug, grab and pull down,
    shoulder dip)
  • Rec. o.b. comes back in and does not participate,
qb sacked or throws to the other side
  • Rec. just beyond the NZ pushes db creates
separation, qb throws to other side (talk to)
  • Article on Holding, what are your keys?

Pass Interference
  • Offense
  • Blocking downfield before the ball has been
    touched (pick)

  • Begin when ball in flight end once forward pass
    touched by A or B

17
NOT Pass interference
  • 2 players going for a ball and contact occurs
    both have equal rights
  • Feet getting tangled up, both players looking
back at the ball and one or both fall to the
    ground
  • Unless face guarding, contact and restriction
    needs to occur
  • A contact foul away from the pass with no bearing
    on the play
