European Technologies
  • All technologies needed are in Europe - in
    principle - available
  • but they are not mature no system is developed
    and ready for operations.
  • Single exception Aster Bl. 1 interceptor with
    some ATBM potential.
  • European common R D programmes are strongly
    recommended
  • in Early Warning Geo Satellite and LR radars
    (MESAR, RELV)
  • MEADS and second interceptor (plug fight)
  • SAMP/T with Aster Bl. 2
  • PAAMS with second interceptor
  • ALI for Boost-/Ascentphase interception
  • Prerequisite Serious political discussion of
    threat assessment

Recommendation
  • Europe should do more, avoid US monopoly and
    should concentrate
  • on TMD systems because
  • most TMD systems, esp. all LL systems have also
    to cope with and have capabilities against
    Cruise Missiles (CM) and manned aircraft.
  • In crisis theatres, NATO flanks included, CM
    UAVs are an increasing threat.
  • USA have a lead of almost 20 years and many
    billions of in high Endo/Exo-interceptors
  • Europe should co-operate with the USA, wherever
    feasible and desirable
