DMOC Mission Statement
  • DMOC serves as Aerospace Command and
    Control's tactical-level synthetic battlespace
hub by integrating and scheduling resources, by
    developing scenarios, by providing virtual
adversary support, by linking to operational and
    strategic-level simulations, and by performing
lead agent responsibilities for Aerospace Command
    and Control Synthetic Battlespace inter-team
    training events

Virtual Flag Network Description
  • DMOC Network
  • Air LAN
  • Ground LAN
  • Many other smaller LANs
  • External Data Links
  • T-1 1.5 Mbits/sec bandwidth
  • Guardnet, 750 Kbits/sec
  • DREN ATM Cloud
  • JDEP
  • DMON
  • Virtual Flag Scenarios
  • About 400 600 Air Entities
  • About 4,000 9,000 Ground Entities
  • Data Protocols
  • DIS, HLA, NATO EX, Link-16, TIBS , SAR/NATO-EX
  • The Need for Bandwidth Reduction due to various
    connection availability
  • Dont want to be limited to the weakest link

8
Bandwidth Reduction Techniques
  • Simple Bandwidth Rules
  • DIS Filter Analyzer (DFA)
  • DMOC Software Router (DSR)

9
Bandwidth Rules
  • Only exercise data (DIS/NATO-EX/etc.) during the
    exercise
  • No File Transfers during exercise
  • Minimize bandwidth use by adjusting DIS Protocol
    Data Unit (PDU) heartbeat rates
  • No remote terminal activity on the exercise
    networks
  • TIBS/TRAP tactical data transmission on STU IIIs

10
DIS Filter Analyzer (DFA)
  • Linux platform
  • User configurable gateway (LAN not HLA gateway)
  • Multiple NICs
  • Filter criteria are applied to PDUs as they are
    read (minimal latency)

11
DFA Capabilities
  • Filtering Capabilities
  • Exercise Identification (ID)
  • PDU Type enabled filter (Entity State Fire
    Detonation Signal Start/Stop etc.)
  • Allow/Deny by Site/App/Entity
  • Allow/Deny by DIS Enumeration
  • Interactions (Fire/Detonation/etc. PDU) from
    denied enumeration are also denied

12
DIS Filter GUI
13
(No Transcript)
14
DFA Capabilities (Cont)
  • Range filter
  • Spherical range filters
  • Allow Entity State PDUs within a range of a
selected Site/App/Entity ID, or a specific
    latitude/longitude/altitude location
  • Control amount of high fidelity data allowed onto
    a LAN

17
Software Router Overview
  • DMOC Software Router (DSR) is a transport utility
    (not related to OSI)
  • Minimal impact on existing sites and systems
  • Fixed bandwidth, but non-uniform bandwidth load
  • Support for all UDP-based broadcast data
  • DIS
  • NATO-EX
  • SAR images
  • Free text messages
  • Voice over IP

18
Software Router Overview
19
Software Router
  • GNU/Linux platform
  • Deployability
  • Remote operation
  • Low cost
  • Data metering and buffering
  • Maximum packets per second
  • Maximum bytes per second
  • Packet priority
  • Multicast ensures a single copy of data on a
    network

20
DMOC Software Router
21
Conclusions
  • DIS Filter LAN GATEWAY
  • Filtering on the transmitter side (vs. receiver)
  • Data-content filtering
  • DSR TRANSPORT UTILITY
  • Provides data flow metering and priority scheme
  • Uses multicast protocol (ATM/network friendly)
