What is Work Study?

• An on-campus job funded through the Federal
  Government, State of Minnesota or Mesabi Range
  College.
• Hours/week and /hour are determined by the
  amount of funding we receive. We want to award
  work study to all interested students.
• Students can work in almost any department on
  both the Eveleth and Virginia campus. The jobs
  range from tutoring, the bookstore, student
  services or instructors in almost every program.

How can I get work study?

• Fill out a FAFSA to determine eligibility
• Work study is listed on award letter
• Must attend Customer Service Training
• Get an authorization packet from the financial
  aid office

How do I get paid?

• Time sheets are turned in by the supervisor every
  two weeks
• Payroll is delayed two weeks
• Checks are available in the Student Services
  Office at your home Campus d on Friday (payday)
  and in the Business Office after that date

Is Work study a real job?

• Your are depended upon for daily operations of
  your department
• Be honest on recording your time
• Show up for work on time
• After missing work for 2 consecutive weeks
  without contacting your supervisor, you will be
  terminated from the workstudy program for the
  academic year
• Communicate with your supervisor and make
  alternative arrangements if you are unable to
  work

• What qualities can you bring to your department?
  
• Your supervisor can be your mentor teaching you
  valuable job skills
• You are building a foundation for your future
• Skills are 20 of success, 80 is your work ethic
  and dependability
• You can make good connections with outstanding
  work, the word gets out about your job
  performance
