• 1600s - first Filipino community in Louisiana
  (Spanish trade via Mexico)
• 1813 - Judsons reach Burma beginning of American
  Baptist missions to NE India and East Asia
• 1839-1860s - Opium Wars Opening of Japan
• 1850s - Chinese and Indian labor migration to
  Hawaii, the Americas and the Carribeans (develop
  frontier economies)

• 1880s - Japanese labor migration to Hawaii and
  the Americas (Chinese exclusion)
• 1898 - Philippine independence annexation
• 1910s - Filipino and Korean labor migration to
  Hawaii and the United States
• 1920s - Japanese other Asians excluded
• 1934 - Filipinos excluded Albert Palmer writes
  Orientals in American Life
• 1941 - World War II, Japanese American Internment
  camps.

  (annexed in 1898)
• 1965 - Immigration Act - opened doors for second
  wave Asian immigrants (largely Chinese, Korean,
  and Filipino)
• 1975-1980s - Southeast Asian refugees
  (Vietnamese, Hmong, Cambodian)
• 1980s - South Indian migration
• 1990s - Diverse Asian migration, including recent
  Chin, Karin, and Kachin refugees
