Title: Be Saved Like
1(No Transcript)
2I Want To Be Saved Like
- I know Mark 1616 Acts 238, but I want to be
saved like
3Basic Facts about Salvation
- Salvation is only found in Christ (Acts 412
Eph. 13) - There is no salvation apart from the blood of
Christ (Heb. 1011-14 1 Pet. 118-19) - Given these facts, salvation is only possible
because of Gods grace (Eph. 28-10) - REAL ISSUE Does man need to respond to Gods
grace with obedience to be saved?
4Countering the Necessity of Water Baptism
- Overlook passages clearly stating baptism is
essential for salvation (remission of sins) - Ignore passages clearly stating the effect of
baptism in bringing one into Christ - Disregard every example of conversion in Acts as
specifying baptism in each case - Instead, those denying the necessity of water
baptism often make this objection...
5I Want To Be Saved Like The Thief On The Cross?
Luke 2339-43
6Really Want Salvation Like Thief On The Cross?
- Want to be crucified on a cross?
- Want to suffer death just after salvation?
- Want to be saved only if Christ directly
pronounces such for you? - No, just want the good part of salvation without
suffering or doing anything
7Consider the Objection...

9Christs Baptism Commanded After Death of Thief
- Great Commission given after thief was dead (Mark
1615-16 Matt. 2818-19) - Gospel first preached in Jerusalem on Pentecost
(Acts 18 -- Acts 21-41) - Baptism in name of Christ first preached then
(Acts 238) - Thief on the cross was dead 50 days before
- Testament of Christ could only take effect after
His death (Heb. 917) - Baptism in name of Lord essential in gospel

Damascus waiting to hear (Acts 99-11) - But he was still in his sins then because...

Tarsus
- By Receiving a Miracle
- But, Saul was not saved at that point
- When he first came to preach to Saul, Ananias
healed Saul (Acts 2213) - But he was still in his sins then because...

16Saul Saved at Point of Baptism
- Paul Romans Baptism (Rom. 61-11)
- WE who were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into his death - WE were buried therefore with Him
- WE have become united with Him in the likeness
of His death - OUR old man was crucified with Him
- So that WE should not longer be in bondage to
sin - Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead
unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus

18Salvation of Cornelius
19Case of Cornelius
- No doubt that Cornelius was obedient
- No doubt that Cornelius was saved
- But we must ask
- When was he saved?
- What was involved in his obedience?
- What does this teach us about obeying God today?
20Introduction to Cornelius (101-6)
- Facts we know were true of Cornelius
- Devout man (2)
- Feared God (2)
- Benevolent (2)
- Prayed to God always (2)
- Saw vision of an angel from God (3)
- If moral goodness assured salvation, he would
have been saved from the start - But Bible said he was not saved at the time
21Acts 1113-14 He Cornelius told us how he had
seen the angel standing in his house, and saying,
Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is
Peter who shall speak unto you words, whereby
you shall be saved.
22However Good, All Have Sinned
- One may be good in many ways, but still lost due
to sin - Rom. 310 There is none righteous, not one
- Rom. 323 All have sinned
- Acts 67 Priests needed to obey gospel
- Acts 1722f Religious idolaters still lost
- Once we sin, we have no way to earn salvation in
of ourselves (Eph. 21-10) - Cornelius needed something besides self...
23Acts 1113-14 He Cornelius told us how he had
seen the angel standing in his house, and saying,
Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is
Peter who shall speak unto you words, whereby
you shall be saved.
24Salvation Requires Obedience to Message of Gospel
Heard
- Message preached to Cornelius all assembled
with him (Acts 1033-36) - Belief in the message required (1043)
- God showed salvation was open to Gentiles
(1044-47 1115-18) - Baptized in name of Christ (1048)
- At that point, given life by God (1118)
25How Did They Obey?
- Heard the Gospel
- Believed it
- Repented
- Were baptized in name of Christ
- RESULT
