  • Inverted S - Curve of Revolution
  • We see that travel both vertically
  • up and horizontally along the S is
    possible

4
SKEWING
  • War and its consequent debt as well as a
general ineffectiveness of rule begins to weigh
down the S. Essentially the first and second
    estates skewing the S.
  • As this skewing takes place the emerging middle
class as well as the traditional peasantry begin
to descend where they were once either on the
level or ascending. This annoys them.
  • People do not like to rise and then descend.
Particularly if they see their descension as the
result of ineffective, corrupt, or antiquated
    rule.

5
SPRING EFFECT
  • Collapsing of its own weight and inefficiency,
the top tier now reacts with what is known as the
spring effect, evicting those at the top of the
    curve completely from the S.
  • This creates a power vacuum that is quickly
filled by the ablest of those from below. As the
S is still reverberating, this shake-up may occur
over an extended period of time, different
individuals or groups may emerge to gain power.
  • This movement is depicted by both the up and down
arrows along the S, as there is significant
movement in either direction during this period
    of turmoil.

6
STABILIZATION
  • During this period the S has returned to its
original shape, altered slightly in the sense
that it is now a bit flatter than it previously
was, indicating that the levels of society are
now closer together, greater equality, yet still
    differences.
  • Notice that woman and servants are being
repressed from above. They, along with the riff
raff (which there will always be), form the
bottom level of the curve. Upward movement is
available to the riff raff, however not to women
and servants. At least not yet.
  • The evicted estates (12) will eventually
reappear somewhere along the S, but only after
their proper position has been defined.

7
HEALTHY S CURVE
  • Pictured here is a healthy S. Notice the free
flow of movement both up and down the curvealso
the rounded turns making for an easier transition
from one level of society to another notice too
the closeness of the levels to one another.
  • Where this type of curve exists there will be
    relative harmony within society.
  • Groups and individuals recognize that they are
free to move up or down as their efforts merit.
  • Only when those at the top force pressure from
above, skewing this balance, will problems arise.

CONCLUSIONS
  • Given the ability to now make a bit of sense to
what had occurred in France in the late
eighteenth century we can easily see how those
with no privilege could supplant those with
    privilege.
  • When a situation evolves to the point where those
at the top become inefficient and their
inefficiency significantly impacts those below so
as to disturb their place in society, negating
both their hopes and their perceived rights,
    significant reactions may result. Particularly
when a segment of those below have been
performing for a period of time at a level which
has resulted in a sense of upward mobility, which
    has now been dashed.
  • Couple this with those at the very bottom now
seeing no benefit to maintaining in any form the
status quo you have the ingredients for
    significant insurrection.
  • Where privilege is not merited, or when it
becomes exceedingly oppressive, it shall be lost.
Provided that others have acquired the ability
    to remove said privilege.
