My Background

• Where am I from?
• I was born and raised in New York City. I am the
  first generation to be raised in the United
  States. My family comes from the Dominican
  Republic which reflects much on me. I was raised
  in the Dominican culture which explains my accent
  and my personal and cultural traits.
• This also helps me now with my sociological
  work here at Penn State and in New York

School, School, and More School!

• 2005-2007- Pennsylvania State University
  Majoring in Civil Engineering and minor in
  Sociology
• 2001-2005 - Saint Agnes Academic High School
  obtained a High School Diploma
• 2002 -Trained in Our Lady of Sorrows to become a
  certified teacher of Confraternity of Catholic
  Doctrine (CCD)
• 1992-2001- Our Lady of Sorrows received a
  elementary/ Junior High School diploma

Why this Major?

• Civil Engineering is a major that mixes my
  favorite subjects that lets me enjoy them. I want
  to use my skills to help the community in any way
  I can and what best but to do something I like.
• The U.S. and other countries can use more stable
  roads and bridges. It makes life much more easier
  and bearable. In New York City, I have the
  experience of having to drive much slower because
  the roads are terrible. It would be more
  beneficial to have great roads and bridges to
  reduce accidents and get to places more
  efficiently.
• I do not know exactly what I will be doing,
  because I might graduate with a civil engineering
  degree and end up being an Architect. What I do
  know is that I want to work abroad for the
  community not for me. I think this is why I
  picked Sociology as a Minor so that I can mix
  these two ways of thinking and come up with
  something great.

24 hours in a day. What do I do?

• I am a GA for some of the sociology 119 classes
  at PSU.
• I am part of Latino Caucus and S.M.A.R.T which
  both help with raising awareness of other
  cultures here at PSU and in New York City.
• I love to and teach dance.
• I do things that help somehow the people around
  me. I think that we should not just focus on us
  individually as a person or as a country we
  should work as a team to help society grow. What
  I do affects the person next to us and what our
  country could affect a country all the way on
  the other side of the world. We need everyone to
  do something and when we put it altogether we
  make a life go more smoothly.
