Title: HOPE
1HOPE
2Hope Differs from Faith
- 1 Cor. 1313 And now these three remain faith,
hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
3Definition Pastor Jack Hayford
- Strong 1680 Hope, not in the sense of an
optimistic outlook or wishful thinking with out
any foundation, but in the sense of confident
expectation based on solid certainty. Biblical
hope rests on Gods promises, particularly those
pertaining to Christs return. So certain is the
future of the redeemed that the NT sometimes
speaks of future events in the past tense, as
though they were already accomplished. Hope is
never inferior to faith, but is an extension of
faith. Faith is the present possession of grace
hope is confidence in graces future
accomplishment.
4Hope is NOT a wish
- I hope I win the lottery.
- I hope Dad will give me a new convertible sports
car for my 16th birthday. - I hope Kay and I can take a three month world
tour this year.
5How Hope Differs from Faith
- Primarily in the future where faith is in the
present. - Hebrews 111, 1 Faith is the confidence that
what we hope for will actually happen it gives
us assurance about things we cannot see.(NLT) - Hope is a prophetically true statement.
6Old Hymn
- My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
- My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus
blood and righteousness - I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly
lean on Jesus name. - On Christ, the Solid Rock, I stand All other
ground is sinking sand, All other ground is
sinking sand.
7Contrast Those who have NO Hope
- Eph. 211-12 Therefore, remember that formerly
you who are Gentiles by birth and called
"uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the
circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands
of men)remember that at that time you were
separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship
in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the
promise, without hope and without God in the
world.
8John Gill quote from Philo
- hence it is manifest that one without hope is not
reckoned a man, but a beast in an human form
since he is destitute of hope, which is the
property of the human soul'' -
9Contrast Our Hope IN Christ
- Eph 213 But now in Christ Jesus you who once
were far away have been brought near through the
blood of Christ. - Eph 1 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you
the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you
may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes
of your heart may be enlightened in order that
you may know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in the
saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for
us who believe.
10 Seven (7) parts of the Hope that we have in
Jesus.
- 1. Personal Return of Jesus
- John 14 1"Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God trust also in me. 2 In my Father's
house are many rooms if it were not so, I would
have told you. I am going there to prepare a
place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place
for you, I will come back and take you to be with
me that you also may be where I am.
112. Resurrection of our Bodies
- 1 Peter 1 3 Praise be to the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has
given us new birth into a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and
into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil
or fadekept in heaven for you, 5 who through
faith are shielded by God's power until the
coming of the salvation that is ready to be
revealed in the last time.
12- Revelation 20 6 Blessed and holy are those who
have part in the first resurrection. The second
death has no power over them, but they will be
priests of God and of Christ and will reign with
him for a thousand years. - Acts 23 6hen Paul, knowing that some of them
were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called
out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a
Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial
because of my hope in the resurrection of the
dead."
133. Restoration of Loved Ones in Christ. 1 Thess
413-18
- 13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant
about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like
the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe
that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe
that God will bring with Jesus those who have
fallen asleep in him. - 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you
that we who are still alive, who are left till
the coming of the Lord, will certainly not
precede those who have fallen asleep.
14Restoration of Loved Ones in Christ (continuted)
- 16 For the Lord himself will come down from
heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of
the archangel and with the trumpet call of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After
that, we who are still alive and are left will be
caught up together with them in the clouds to
meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with
the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each
other with these words.
154. Fellowship with the Saved.
- . 1 Thess 219 For what is our hope, our joy, or
the crown in which we will glory in the presence
of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?
165. We are Presented to God.
- A) Spotless Eph. 5 27and to present
her(church) to himself (Jesus) as a radiant
church, without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and blameless. - B) In Glory-Col. 1 27 To them (the Saints) God
has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the
glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ
in you, the hope of glory.
176. Our Hope is Eternal Life-To Know Him
- A) Know God John 173 Now this is eternal life
that they may know you, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. - B) 1 Cor. 13 12 Now we see but a poor
reflection as in a mirror then we shall see
(HIM) face to face. Now I know in part then I
shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
187. Our Inheritance in Heaven
- 1 Peter 13 Praise be to the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ!
19The Holy City The New Jerusalem
- Revelation 21 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new
earth, for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming
down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard
a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the
dwelling of God is with men, and he will live
with them. They will be his people, and God
himself will be with them and be their God.
20Revelation 214
- 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There
will be no more death or mourning or crying or
pain, for the old order of things has passed
away." - NO MORE No Tears, No Crying, No Pain, No
Sickness, No Stress, No Problems, No Worries, No
Weakness, No Sin, No Temptation, No
Death. THAT IS MY HOPE!!!!!!!!!! AND IT IS ALL
IN JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
21Two Scriptures in Conclusion
- Jer. 2911 For I know the plans I have for you,"
declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not
to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray
to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek
me and find me when you seek me with all your
heart.
22- Ps 31 24 Be strong and take heart, all
you who hope in the LORD.
