4Did Jesus Die For ALL?
- "The question which we are to discuss under the
subject of 'Limited Atonement' is, Did Christ
offer up Himself a sacrifice for the whole human
race, for every individual without distinction or
exception or did His death have special
reference to the elect? In other words, was the
sacrifice of Christ merely intended to make the
salvation of all men possible, or was it intended
to render certain the salvation of those who had
been given to Him by the Father? Arminians hold
that Christ died for all men alike, while
Calvinists hold that in the intention and secret
plan of God Christ died for the elect only"
(Loraine Boettner, The Reformed Doctrine of
Predestination, p. 150).
5Did Jesus Die For ALL?
- If God has elected some and not others to eternal
life, then plainly the primary purpose of
Christ's work was to redeem the elect" (Ibid., p.
151). - "We believe that God has an elect people whom he
has chosen unto eternal salvation. We believe
that the atonement of Christ was for that chosen
number and no one else" (Elder Eddie K. Garrett,
Primitive Baptist, in The Christian Baptist,
March, 1972).

LIMITED ATONEMENT
Christs redeeming work was intended to save the
elect only and actually secured salvation for
them. His death was substitutionary in the
place of certain specified sinners. (The
Reformed Faith by L. Boettner p. 26-27)
7Christ Died for ALL People
- 1 John 22 - "not for ours only, but also, for
the sins of the world." - John 651 - He gave His flesh for the life of the
world (Jn. 316) - 2 Corinthians 514 - "if one died for all, then
were all dead." - Hebrews 29- Note "by the grace of God," Christ
"tasted death for every man - The grace of God that bringeth salvation "hath
appeared to all men" (Titus 211), and it is this
grace which sent Christ to die for all.
8Christ Died for ALL People
- 1 Timothy 23 For this is good and acceptable
in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all
men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of
the truth. 5 For there is one God and one
Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ
Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be
testified in due time.
9Christ Died for ALL People
- 1 Timothy 410 For to this end we both labor
and suffer reproach, because we trust in the
living God, who is the Savior of all men,
especially of those who believe. - 2 Peter 39 The Lord is not slack concerning
His promise, as some count slackness, but is
longsuffering toward us, not willing that any
should perish but that all should come to
repentance.
10Christ Died for ALL People
- Matthew 1128 "Come to Me, all you who labor
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy
and My burden is light." - Romans 56 For when we were still without
strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly.
11Consequences of Limited Atonement
- It restricts God's love and grace (2 Cor. 514
Heb. 29) - It negates God's will to save all men (1 Tim.
24 2 Pet. 39) - It makes a mockery of the great commission (Matt.
2819 Mk. 1615, 16). Why preach to "every
creature" if all are not subject? See Acts 1034,
35.
12Consequences of Limited Atonement
- Pretends that Limited Atonement makes Jesus
death EFFECTIVE - Thus, could not have died in vain for people.
- But,..
- If Jesus died in vain for some, then the doctrine
of Limited Atonement is FALSE - 1 Cor 152 By this gospel you are saved, if you
hold firmly to the word I preached to you.
Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
13Consequences of Limited Atonement
- Pretends that Limited Atonement makes Jesus
death EFFECTIVE - Thus, could not have died in vain for people.
- But,..
- If Jesus died in vain for some, then the doctrine
of Limited Atonement is FALSE - 2 Cor 61 - As God's fellow workers we urge you
not to receive God's grace in vain. NIV
14Consequences of Limited Atonement
- Pretends that Limited Atonement makes Jesus
death EFFECTIVE - Thus, could not have died in vain for people.
- But,..
- If Jesus died in vain for some, then the doctrine
of Limited Atonement is FALSE - 1 Cor 811-12 And because of your knowledge shall
the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
NKJV
15Can Set Aside The Grace of God
- Gal 221 -I do not set aside the grace of God
for if righteousness comes through the law, then
Christ died in vain." NKJV - Gal 411 -I am afraid for you, lest I have
labored for you in vain. NKJV - Gal 52-4 - Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if
you become circumcised, Christ will profit you
nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who
becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep
the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from
Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law
you have fallen from grace. NKJV
