Ogdens Family History
- He was born Frederick Ogden Nash on August 19,
1902 in Rye, New York.
- At age seven, Nash was diagnosed with a serious
eye infection that forced him to stay in dark
rooms for over a year. It was then when Nash
began to expand his mind throught poems and
stories read to him by his mother. This was the
only easy way for Nash to pass the time.
- He was the youngest of five children who
belonged to his parents, whom Nash never really
knew.
- By the age of 10, Nash had already begun
writing poems that would soon become pieces of
literary art.
- Nash was raised mainly by his grandfather, from
whom he received the name Frederick.

Ogdens Education
- From an early age, Nash knew his loves were
writing and speaking, and decided to pursue these
interests during his school years.
- Ogden was first sent to St. Georges School, a
catholic school in Rhode Island where he was for
his high school education.
- After High School, Nash went on to study
literature briefly at Harvard University in 1920.
- After his school days, Nash started writing
advertising copy for Doubleday Page Publishing in
New York. However, the poems he wrote in his
spare time were really catching the eyes of some
very important publishers, as well as people
throughout America.
