Operation Smart(History)
  • Initiated in 1996, but not actively implemented
    until 1998
  • Operation SMART was designed for soldiers to
assist the United States Army Recruiting Command
    with recruiting efforts.
  • SMART has now evolved to allow anyone to make
referrals to the program. This includes all
    veterans and civilians.
  • SMART was developed as a Web-based referral
system. Referrals are taken via the internet.

Incentives
  • If a referral enlists, the person making the
referral will be awarded a Certificate and Coin
from the Sergeant Major of the Army.
  • Each year, the top Operation SMART soldier, one
each from the active Army and USAR, will be
invited to attend the Chief of Staff of the Army
Recruiter of Excellence Award Ceremony in
Washington, D.C. Their CSM will also be invited
