Demographic shift
  • In 1950 1 in 10 of the population was over 65
  • Now it is 1 in 6
  • By 2035 it will be 1 in 4.
  • Life expectancy has increased by 30 years in the
    20th century and births have declined.
  • By 2022 there will be 1 million fewer people
    under 50 and 3 million more aged 50-60.

  • There are currently more than a million
    unemployed people over 50 who could potentially
    be in work. If they were all in jobs, up to 30
    billion could be added to the gross domestic
    product.
