2Mirabeaus young/teen life and first jobs
- Mirabeau was born in Louisville,
Georgia, on August 16, 1798. He was the son of
John and Rebecca Lamar. When he was a young boy,
he was an excellent horseman, and a accomplished
fencer. In 1819, he had a brief partnership in a
general store. In 1821 he was a joint publisher
at the Cahawba Press for a few months.
3Mirabeaus later life
- Mirabeau Lamar married Tabitha Jordan on
August 20,1829,and had a daughter named Rebecca
Ann. Soon Tabitha got sick with tuberelosis.
Because of Tabithas sickness, he and his
daughter moved to Columbus, Georgia. When George
M. Troup was elected governor, Lamar became his
secretary and member of his household.
4Mirabeaus sad life later on
- In 1826, he resigned to nurse his bride
who was still ill. He was elected to state
senator. In 1829, it was time for a reelection.
When Tabby died, he withdrew from the race.
Another tragedy happened after that. - In 1843 Rebecca Ann died. Mirabeau was
soon plunged into melancholia, and sought relief
in travel.
5 During this time, he wrote 2
of his best known poems. Thou Idol of my soul,
and At Evening on the banks of Chattahoochee".
When he went to Texas, he was beginning to heal
and he deiced to settle in the Mexican Province.
Then he declared Independence for Texas and
helped build a fort at Velasc L

6The Alamo
- Then he went to Georgia to set his
Affairs. When he hear the news of the Alamo, he
hurried back to Texas. He joined the
revolutionary army as a private. When the Mexican
and the Texans forces faced each other on April
20, 1836, Thomas J. Rusk and Walter Payne Lane
were surrounded by the enemies. Lamars quick
actions the next day saved their lives.
7Again The Alamo
- With those actions he got a salute from
the Mexican lines. As the battle of San Jacinto
was about to start, he was verbally commissioned
to a colonel and assigned to command the cavalry.
10 days after the battle, having become the
sectary of war in David G. Burnets cabinet, he
demanded that Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna be
executed as a murder.
8A month later
- Lamar was now a major general and commander
in chief of many Texas army, but the unruly Texas
troops refused to except him, so he went to back
to the civilian life. - In September 1836, in the first national
election, Lamar was elected vice president, an
office in which he had to leisure to augment
