11The Strategy
STAGE-1 OPTIMISATION --- LEAST COST BEST
BENEFIT Existing rail infrastructure passes
through densely populated areas but the rail
nodes are not connected to the main areas
properly. By developing proper feeder network
from major production /attraction centres to the
nearest rail nodes and by creation of few
additional service stations on the rail network,
a firm foundation for a comprehensive commuter
transportation plan for the twin cities can be
laid.

13EnvironmentSocial Impact
Pollutants emitted by vehicular traffic is
considered to contribute 60-70 of the total
pollution load in the urban atmosphere.
It is estimated that the proposed MRTS when
functional would replace the following number of
road vehicles over an average lead of 15 km.
Two wheelers - 23,300 Three wheelers - 7
,316 Buses - 2 , 156
This would result in a reduction in pollutants
of about 3,100 tonnes/year in the urban
agglomeration
14Land use integration
Densification of corriodors
TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPEMENT
Green areas-- Reseach Parks. Leisure Parks
etc., which do not reqire intense commuting

It is not proper to assess the viability of a
public utility system strictly by the return on
the capital invested.socio-economic costing
would be more appropriate
