• At the close of the Cretaceous Period of the
  Mesozoic Era another mass extinction occurred.
  
• Scientists hypothesize that this extinction
  occurred because of an asteroid that struck the
  Earth.
  
• Remember there is an asteroid belt that lies

• On the Geologic Time Scale, time is broken into
  four sections.
  
• The first is Precambrian Time -4 billion years
  ago
  
• The second is the Paleozoic Era- 500 million
  years ago
  
• The third is the Mesozoic Era- 250-225 million
  years ago
  
• The last is the Cenozoic Era- 65 million years
  ago
  
• Each Era is broken into periods of time.
• We are in the Cenozoic Era of the Quaternary
  Period
