Saladins Birth
During the year 1138, a child was born in the
small town of Takrit, on the coast of the Tigris
river. Welcomed to the world by these words, La
ilaha illa allah muhammad rasul allah
. Saladin grew up to be a fine, noble boy. At
the age of seven, Saladin was educated at the
mosque where he found out the horrible past of is
country.

Vizier Saladin
During the time, Egypt was politically in chaos
therefore the Franks and Nur al-Din saw an
opportunity of a life time and
seized it. The vizier(king) played tricks on the
Franks and the Turks and made them fought each
other. After another small victory Shirkuh,
Saladins uncle, finally decided not to leave the
palace. In his rage, the vizier decided to have
Shirkuh assinated. Instead, the high priest of
Egypt killed the king and placed Shirkuh in his
place. Months later, Shirkuh died and Saladin
then became the vizier of Egypt.

Saladins Quarrel
  • Three years after Saladin took the throne of
    Egypt, Nur al-Din died. Since his heir was to
    young, Nur al-din did not have someone of age to
    take his place. Therefore, Saladin took Nur
    al-Dins place. Nur al-Dins brothers refused
    and Saladin had to fight defensively but not
    offensively for he did not want to kill any of
    them. They battled for 9 years and finally
    gained their his position to the throne.

Arrival of Conrad
  • Soon refugees took camp at fort Tyre. Saladin
    then went after the easier targets but showed to
    be the biggest mistake he ever made. During the
    time Saladin attacked the weaker targets, Conrad
    of Montferrat sailed to the harbor with a small
    cluster of soldiers. A couple of weeks later, an
    underground tunnel was built, filled with brush
    and was set on fire. The wall collapsed and the
    city finally surrndered unconditionally.

Saladin has ever faced.

The Third Crusade
  • After learning that Jerusalem was lost to the
    Turks, Pope Urban III was said to have past away
    from the shock. This made the new pope Gregory
    VIII, demanded for a third crusade. The Crusade
    involved, King Richard I of England, and kings
    across Germany and France. To have enough money
    to do so, King Richard made a 10 tax of all
    persons called the Saladin Tithe.

The Final Battle
The final battle against King Richards fresh
troops from England was a disaster. All of
Saladins men were dishearten but they
still fought courageously. In the end, most of
them ended up dead or critically injured.
Saladin had no choice but to go back to
Jerusalem and strengthen his defenses.

Lionhearts Treaty
  • The peace treaty was signed on September 2, 1192
    which was to last for three years. All of
    Jerusalem was to belong to The Muslims except for
    a strip of coastline which the Franks owned.
    King Richard was never seen in Jerusalem again.

Saladin Returned Home
Returning home for the first time in Four years,
Saladin was really happy to be with his family
again. Saladin was married to Nur al-Dins
wife, Ismat.

Saladins Final Days
  • Having left his oldest son as king of Damascus
    Egypt, on March fourth, Saladin past away. In
    Damascus, a physician stated that this case was
    the only kings death that was actually mourned
    by his people
