3Moveable Type 960 AD
Johannes Gutenberg's invention of the printing
press in 1450 is widely thought of as the origin
of movable-type printing. A closer look at the
history of printing, however, shows that China
was the first country in the world to use
4Moveable Type 960 AD
- clay movable type
- (Northern Song 960-1127 AD).
- wooden movable type
- (Southern Song 1127-1276 AD).
- tin movable type
- (Yuan 1271-1368 AD).
5Braille Printing 1827
The first book in braille was published in 1827.
6Telecommunications 1835
Samuel F. B. Morse conceived of an
electromagnetic telegraph in 1832 and constructed
an experimental version in 1835.
7Telecommunications 1835
He did not construct a truly practical system
until 1844, when he built a line from Baltimore
to Washington, D.C.
8Telephone 1876
1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented his
"electrical speech machine," which we now call a
telephone.

10Light Bulb 1879
Thomas Alva Edison experimented with thousands of
different filaments to find just the right
materials to glow well and be long-lasting.
11Light Bulb 1879
In 1879, Edison discovered that a carbon filament
in an oxygen-free bulb glowed but did not burn up
for 40 hours.
12RR Telegraph 1887
Granville T. Woods patented the Synchronous
Multiplex Railway Telegraph, which allowed
communications between train stations from moving
trains. Woods' invention made it possible for
trains to communicate with the station and with
other trains so they knew exactly where they were
at all times.
13Color Pictures 1892
Frederick Ives developed his Kromskop system,
which was the world's first complete system for
natural color photography.
14Color Pictures 1892
Kromskop was an early viewing instrument using a
system of mirrors and color filters to synthesize
a full color image.
15Motion Pictures 1895
The Frenchman Louis Lumiere is often credited as
inventing the first motion picture camera.
16Motion Pictures 1895
Lumiere actually invented a portable
motion-picture camera, film processing unit and
projector called the Cinematographe, three
functions covered in one invention.
17Radio Amplifier 1906
Lee De Forest invented the device that made
wireless radio broadcasting practicable the
"triode" or "audion" amplifier.
18Radio Amplifier 1906
His audion tube became an essential component of
not only commercial radio, but the telephone,
television, radar, and computer.
19Personal Computer 1974
Personal Computers (microcomputers) were made
possible by two technical innovations the
integrated circuit, which was developed in
1959. the microprocessor, which first
appeared in 1971.
20Personal Computer 1974
The first desktop-size system specifically
designed for personal use appeared in 1974 and
was offered by Micro Instrumentation Telemetry
Systems (MITS). Sold as a computer kit through a
magazine, the computer, which was called Altair,
retailed for slightly less than 400.
21Personal Computer 1974
The first major electronics firm to manufacture
and sell personal computers, Tandy Corporation
(Radio Shack), introduced its model in 1977.
22Personal Computer 1974
Early in 1977, Jobs and Wozniak founded Apple
Computer, Inc. and in April of that year
introduced the Apple II.
