NYC AIDS Housing Network

• The NYC AIDS Housing Network is a membership led
  organization bringing together homeless and
  formerly homeless people living with HIV/AIDS,
  AIDS service organizations and nonprofit housing
  providers
• We believe housing is a human right. Our mission
  is to empower low-income people living with
  HIV/AIDS to organize our community to advocate
  for more and better housing for all New Yorkers
  living with HIV/AIDS.
• The AIDS Housing Network accomplishes its mission
  through the following five projects that organize
  around prison, drug use, youth, healthcare, and
  of course housing issues.

The Problem

• Low-income New Yorkers who test positive for HIV
  are in need of rental assistance in order to keep
  them from becoming homeless. But unless they have
  an AIDS diagnosis, they only qualify for standard
  public assistance benefits - not enough to pay
  the rent. They are forced to wait until they get
  sick enough to qualify for HASA.
• AIDS is the number one killer of women struggling
  to survive the Department of Homeless Services
  shelter system. It is the number 2 killer of
  men.

The Solution

• ALL poor HIV New Yorkers should receive enhanced
  rental assistance and increased food and
  nutrition benefits from the NYC HIV/AIDS Services
  Administration (HASA).
• NYCAHN is working with Housing Works GMHC to
  push forward legislation in the NYC City Council
  and Albany.

What YOU can Do?

• If you are poor HIV, but cant get into HASA
  (a.k.a. DAS or DASIS), then please call NYCAHN at
  [phone]!
• Get your organization to join the campaign!
• Come to our monthly meeting (last Monday of the
  month at 4pm) and start working on the committee!
  
• Talk to your City Councilmember about the
  necessity of this legislation (go to
  www.nyccouncil.info)
• Go to www.nycahn.org for more information.
• Help us do outreach to HIV individuals in the
  homeless shelters and hospitals.
