2Purpose
- To ensure every student graduates on the
recommended plan. - To enable students to continue involvement in the
fine arts for all 4 years of high school. - To make a plan that will enable you to meet your
future goals.
3Why 4 Years of Fine Arts?
- Fine Arts provide an emotional, social, and
artistic outlet. - Skills learned in Fine Art classes are stacked
the longer you are enrolled, the more skills you
will develop. - There are many benefits of continual enrollment
in Fine Arts courses.
4Here are a few interesting facts, concerning
Fine Arts Education.
5Fine Art Research
- Research supports a high correlation between fine
art experience and higher scores on the SAT. - Additional research supports slightly higher IQ
scores as well as increased brain size in fine
arts students.

- Students with fine arts experience average 82
points higher on the SAT than those without fine
arts. - Students with 4 or more years of Fine Arts
average 89 points higher on the SAT than those
with .5 semester or no Fine Art experience. - Texas All State members average almost 200 SAT
points higher than the national average.
7Where Does the Data come from?
- Data has been collected from the College Board,
makers of the SAT, as well as independent
researchers. - Gifted and Talented research also supports this
data.
8Colleges are looking for students with more than
just high grades!!
- Your other activities play a big part in college
acceptance.

- Students that can think outside of the box.

- Fine Art involvement is also a big plus on your
college resume
11Did You Know?Music majors are the most likely
group of college grads to be admitted to medical
school. Physician and biologist Lewis Thomas
studied the undergraduate majors of medical
school applicants. He found that 66 percent of
music majors who applied to med school were
admitted, the highest percentage of any group.
For comparison, (44 percent) of biochemistry
majors were admitted. Also, a study of 7,500
university students revealed that music majors
scored the highest reading scores among all
majors including English, biology, chemistry and

16All students must have
- 4 credits of English
- 4 credits of Math
- 4 credits of Science
- 4 credits of Social Studies
- .5 credit of Health
- .5 credit of Communications
- 1 credit of Technology
- 1.5 credits of P.E.
- 1 credit of Fine Arts
- 2-3 Credits of the same Foreign Language
- 2.5-3.5 credits of Academic Electives
1726 Credits Total
- With a seven period day, over the course of four
years, 28 credits are possible without other
sources such as summer school, on-line courses,
and correspondence course.
184 years of Fine Arts is Possible!!!!
- You must have one year.
- You have 2.5-3.5 electives. These can be Fine
Arts courses. - There are still 2 Extra classes. Remember you
will take 28 credits, and need only 26 for
graduation.
19This plan allows for 1.5-2.5 credits of
additional electives.
20What does it all mean?
- As you build your 4-year plan, treat the fine
arts as you would any of the core subjects.
Build them in first, and work additional
requirements around them.
21A quick word about the core subjects
- You will have to decide on what level CP, Pre-AP
or AP. - Take the highest level of courses you think you
can handle- more advanced courses carry a higher
GPA weight. - Advanced level sciences may require a separate
lab course, so it would take 2 spots in your
schedule.
22Fine Art 4-Year Plan
23PE Waiver
- Band and Dance students will automatically
receive a PE waiver. (Must do a minimum of 3
years of the same waiver) - Others Fine Arts students may consider Off Campus
PE or certain other wavier courses
24PE Waived Courses
- Some may be double blocked. Check in the
Blueprint to make sure. - You can only receive .5 credit of PE each
semester, even if the class is double blocked. - If you have only 1 credit of waivers or
equivalents, the third semester of PE must be
Foundations.

26Fine Art 4-Year Plan with PE Waivers
- This allows 1.5 more electives
27Options for Additional Electives
- Health may be taken as an on-line course, or
through summer school. Also Health Science
waives health. - BCIS,Communication Applications and some PE
courses may be taken through summer school. - Many ISDs allows 2 credits to be taken for
acceleration, though correspondence and on-line
courses. Summer school does not count toward
these 2 credits.
28Fine Art 4-Year Plan with additional Elective
Options
295-6 elective choices
- If PE, BCIS, Health and Communication
Applications are taken through other means, you
have 5-6 additional elective choices. - This means you can do Fine Arts for 4 years and
another program. - This also leaves room for additional advanced
classes.

- We are looking for even more on-line course
offerings as well as certain other waivers,
making it even easier to stay involved in the
Fine Arts
