• Provides low-income pregnant women, mothers,
  children and adolescents a variety of health
  services
• Collaborates with other oral health
  organizations/agencies to increase awareness of
  oral health in these populations

Goals as Oral Health Consultant

• To Improve the Oral Health of a Pregnant Woman
• Prevents complications of dental diseases during
  pregnancy
• Has the potential to decrease early childhood
  caries
• May reduce preterm and low birth weight
  deliveries

• To Improve the Oral Health of Children and
  Adolescents
• Promote prevention programs to reduce the
  incidence of early childhood caries
• Increase access to dental treatment
• Improve overall health and well-being

Duties as MCAH Oral Health Consultant

• Provide assistance to 61 local MCAH jurisdictions
  regarding oral health programs and dental
  services
• Survey of 58 counties and 3 cities
• Review data from 5 year Needs Assessment and
  Annual Reports for oral health activities

• Assist MCAH programs with inclusion of prevention
  programs including
• Black Infant Health
• Adolescent Family Life Program
• Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program
• California Diabetes and Pregnancy Program

Duties as MCAH Oral Health Consultant

• Address oral health educational needs
• Notify programs of the latest information and
  resources in oral health care
• Assist in developing and reviewing educational
  materials
• Present local training on oral health to MCAH
  jurisdictions

  Committee
