- Not an option too many students

School (Remodeled)
- Pros
- Good work relationship
- Good foundation
- Limited redistricting
- Would not outgrow building
- Least disruptive to families
- Students are more connected to teacher than to a
certain school - Early Childhood Staff already aligned and working
together - Pre-school and kindergarten staff have developed
and utilized common units over the past several
years - Transition procedures already in place and strong
- Preschool transportation is already established.
Monitors on bus asset. - No switching school if family moves.
- Maximum use of resources centralized human and
material.
- Cons
- Facility (steps) Cannot use RMS for Pre-Kdg
young children cannot be on an upper level.

- Pros
- No redistricting
- No new buses or drivers
- No switching school if families move
- Can add more resources to 4-5 center
- Cons
- Could outgrow
- All accountability in 1 location
- Adding 1 transition
- Unity among teachers not as tight - teachers
likely wont move - Removes accountability of P-3s to the 4-5s
- AYP - transportation issue

- Cons
- Not an option because of facility Cannot put
preschool or kindergarten in upper level.

- Great opportunity for older students.
- Greater opportunity for gifted students.

- Politics of selection process
- Taking away high scores and roll models
(tracking) - Transportation
- Limits options for numbers
- Difficult to assess new students coming in.
- Too much student movement.

- Pre Ks work well together

- Intervention push

- More flexibility and likely wouldnt outgrow

- Most everyone is affected (staff and students)
- P-2 parents will have trouble moving kids
- Adds additional transitions.
- Transportation would be more difficult multiple
shuttles. - Does not help with Vine Grove overcrowding.
12Option 8 (5th Grade Center)Meadow View,
Parkway, Vine Grove, Woodland
- Pros
- Accountability shared with grade 4
- No redistricting
- More focused on middle school transition
- Cons
- Vine Grove would be split between JTA and NM
Vine Grove would need to stay P-5 ??? - Lacking Affiliation/Spirit to a particular school
- Certification could be an issue - Teachers would
not be able to be K-4 certified - 1 year relationship lack of personal connection
with students.

and Parkway Building for Pre-K for MV, PK, VG,
WD)
- Pros
- Limited redistricting
- Keep accountability out of all 4 schools
- Transition/more stable setting for Pre/K
- Strong emphasis in early foundation and flexible
grouping - Teacher more accepting of move
- Good work relationship
- Would not outgrow building anticipation of 861
children under 5 - Least disruptive to families
- Students are more connected to teacher than to a
certain school - Early Childhood staff already aligned and working
together - Maximizes human and material resources
- Pre-school and kindergarten staff have developed
and utilized common units over the past several
years - Transportation cost decrease for preschool due to
shared transportation - Kdg. gets the benefit of riding the preschool bus
with monitor
- Cons
- Woodland designed for Preschool classes (2
classes) playground at WD - Playground at Parkway
- No playground at RMS
- Bldg capacity PK EC center will not be fully
used in the beginning (could be used as overflow
site for grade 1 if needed) - No sending kids home with older siblings
- Splits families adds a transition (will take
extra work to build the expectation with the
family)

- RMS will become the new PK site (1-5)
- This is the PK district area
- If we redistrict to re-establish P-5 schools in a
few years, this would be the PK site (no more
movement of staff) - With 861 new children under 5 anticipated for our
area and universal preschool on the horizon,
additional space will be needed.
15Space is tight nowwhat about next year?
- Phase 1 Aug. 2009
- Preschool classes at VG, WD, MV will move to PK
This will open much needed classroom space for
next students.
- Phase 2 August 2010
- PK grades 1-5 will move to new renovated school.
- Kindergarten classes will move to PK EC Center
16Administrators of Sites
- Joan Cooke will move to the new site with Parkway
1-5. - Carlena Sheeran, Director of Early Childhood will
work with administration to open the Early
Childhood Center at the Parkway. She will retain
an office in both the EC Center and the Central
Office.
17Initial plan to create space at Vine Grove
- Redistrict Vineland area to Meadow View and North
Middle. - Will open additional space for Vine Grove in 2010
-11 - Will gradually open additional space in JT Alton
(gradual implementation by 2012 13) - Note Vineland students attending Alton in 09-10
will have the option to continue through 8th
grade. The district will provide transportation
to JTA and North Middle until 2013.
18 Planning and Communication Process
- Principal planning meetings beginning October

- Present recommendation to board for discussion,
May 21, 2009 - Send letters to parents of children to relocated
May 26, 2009 - Have a Q A night for parents on June 2
