What is Dual Credit?
  • A dual credit course is a class taken
  • by a high school student. When the
  • course is successfully completed, the
  • student will receive credit for the class
  • on their high school transcript and
  • their Northwest Vista College transcript.

Advantages of Dual Credit
  • No college tuition
  • Upon qualification, students may take two classes
    each regular semester
  • Most courses taught at high school campus
  • Both high school and college credit awarded
  • Curriculum is more rigorous than high school
  • College credit will apply to an associates
    degree at NVC see handout of possible classes
  • NVC college credit may transfer to other colleges
    or universities

How do I get started?
  • Junior or senior standing at NISD
  • Sign up for classes on high school course card
    confirm registration
  • Complete and Submit Dual Credit Web application,
    required forms, official transcript test scores
    to NVC by deadline
  • Meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) college
    qualification testing requirements

  • On-line Admissions Application

  • Dual Credit Consent Form
  • Supplemental Forms
  • Military Verification, Dual Credit Application
    for Waiver, copy of resident alien card, etc.
  • All forms should be submitted to your Counselor

What Tests?
  • ACCUPLACER is a state exam that measures
    college-level proficiency in reading, writing,
    and math.
  • It is required of all students prior to
    enrollment in a Texas public college or
    university
  • It will determine your TSI (Texas Success
    Initiative) Status.

Do I have to take it?
  • TSI requirements
  • Exempt with appropriate SAT, ACT, or TAKS scores
  • SAT of 1070 (min 500 Verbal 500 Math)
  • ACT of 23 (min 19 English 19 Math)
  • TAKS
  • min 2200 Math
  • min 2200 English/Language Arts w/writing sub
    score of 3
  • Take the ACCUPLACER
  • Earn college level placement

TESTING DEADLINE If you are not exempt, you must
take the Accuplacer by APRIL 30, 2007. Students
who test at another institution must notify and
submit official test scores to Northwest Vista
College.

Now that you are enrolled for FALL 2007?
  • Ask your teacher if you are on the Northwest
    Vista Dual Credit List!
  • If you are not, talk to your counselor
  • If you make changes to your schedule let us know.

Need to withdraw from a Class?
  • Requests for Withdrawal must be
  • submitted to NVC by a teacher or
  • counselor and will only be dropped
  • through this process.

Need to withdraw from a Class?
  • A C must be obtained in each class in order to
    remain enrolled in dual credit for the second
    portion continuing thru the spring
  • If a grade of D or below is received in a
    class, the student will not be able to continue
    in the Dual Credit Program.
  • Remember, by taking dual credit courses, you are
    starting a college transcript

Okay, Ive heard all this information. Now, what
do I turn in again?
  • Go to website and print out PDF forms
  • Dual Credit Parent/Student Consent Form
  • Submit copies of Military Verification,
    citizenship or residency documentation (if
    applicable)
  • Submit all completed and signed paperwork to your
    HS counselor.
