Title: Seminar 4.2

1
Seminar 4.2
  • Adore Your Core

2
Do Now
  • Answer the following questions in your notes
  • Have you ever been to the circus or the ballet
    or a cheerleading competition?
  • How are the acrobats, ballerinas and
cheerleaders able to perform their moves?
  • What makes them so strong?
  • What do you notice about their posture?

3
Try this
  • Sit up straight in your chair, dont let you back
touch the chair or you stomach touch the desk.
  • Relax your stomach muscles and then relax your
    back muscles.
  • You should slump over.
  • When on part of your body is weak, everything
    else is weakened too.

4
Core Muscles
  • Your core muscles are the muscles around your
    trunk.
  • stomach, back, chest, shoulders, upper legs
  • Core muscles
  • Protect and brace your back
  • Control your movement
  • Give you a more stable center of gravity
  • Provide a more stable platform for sports
    movements
  • Try shooting a lacrosse ball with out using your
    core!

5
More on your core
  • Just like a house has a foundation, your core
muscles are like a foundation for all your other
    muscles.
  • What would happen if you built a house from the
    top down?
  • When you focus your exercise on just a few
muscles, like your biceps, its like building a
    house without a foundation.

6
One thing your core is for
  • Building up good core muscles prevents your body
from storing too much omentum fat, which puts
strain on all your bodies organs.

7
How muscles work
  • Muscles are like expandable ladders.
  • Your muscles contract (get thicker and shorter)
like a ladder would when the muscles are used.
  • You can build up various parts of the ladder.
  • Strength training works on the ladder poles
    themselves.
  • Stamina training focuses on the amount of force
it takes to move the poles.

8
Major Muscle Groups
  • There are more muscles in your body than I have
    time to teach you today.
  • Lets look at the major groups of muscles that we
    need to know.
