3What is a Corporate University? A corporate
university has the following characteristics and
responsibilities
- It takes its inspiration from organic business
development - It is a company-owned concept
- It is responsible for ensuring that investments
in education, training and development are
directly relevant to the business needs - It defines a learning management architecture
that is in tune with the organisations business
environment and strategy - It fosters life-long learning at the individual
to organisational level
There is no single form. There are several
building blocks and it will differ from company
to company according to pace of change, the
organisations capabilities, business environment
and strategy.
4Rationale and Objectives for the ECUANET Project
Corporate university practice varies widely
across Europe and generally provides lower RoI
than the dynamic business-led corporate academies
of North America. ECUANET will discover the
strategic and operational strands that make up
performance best practice in corporate university
design, implementation and management. The
project will look to the future and create a
forum for new strategic perspectives on the
rapidly changing character of organisation
learning and knowledge innovation.
- ECUANET will
- build a professional pan-European best practice
network of private and public sector
organisations - Discover world class performance best practice
and identify effective management processes and
tools - Develop strategic perspectives on the future
organisational learning environment and its
consequences - Define competencies and qualifications for
corporate university practitioner-managers

8Configuring the CU bringing complexity under
control
- The CU Blueprint Profiler
- A comprehensive process model pointing to all the
key decision areas for a successful outcome - A database of emergent best practice relevant to
learning management in a changing business
environment - Closing the learning to earning skills gap
- Emergent curriculum that delivers benefits to the
business in real time - Collaborative sharing of knowledge in CU and
Enterprise Academy practice
Successful corporate universities and academies
worldwide are based upon the sum of all
development activities across the
organisation. The Corporate University Blueprint
Profiler is the empirical research management
model that links all these activities into a
coherent and meaningful whole.
