  • Echolink (similar to Yahoo voice chat)
  • Separate database with ham radio callsigns as the
    locator.
  • Started out as a voice chat and later added
    xmitters at the computer.
  • Still in use with just the computers, but also
    accessible to trojans, hackers, etc.

IRLP
  • IRLP (Internet Radio Linking Project)
  • Uses a dedicated transmitter, connected to a
    dedicated computer (Linux), connected to a
    broadband internet connection
  • A simple hand held transceiver, transmits on the
    IRLP frequency, and the IRLP node receives the
    signal, accepts the four digit code, does a DNS
    lookup, and connects to the other node in Lansing
    Michigan
  • VOIP then goes back and forth in the radio
    network.
