A Day/ B Day Schedule

  • Elective Classes Programs 5th / 6th Grade?
  • The 5th/6th Grade elective or exploratory
    program is for those students who do not play in
    either the orchestra or the band. These students
    will take Visual Arts for half of the year and
    then take Technology for the other half of the
    year.
  • The Visual Arts class focuses on basic art
    skills set in a two-year cycle. This means that
    students will work as 5th Graders on different
    material then they will work on as 6th Graders.
    One year the focus is print-making, stamp making,
    brush painting, and drawing skills. The next year
    students work with color and drawing.
  • The Technology class focuses on keyboarding
    skills and includes basic use of the Office
    programs Excel, Word, and Power point. It also
    includes iMovie and the use of digital video
    cameras.
  • Leadership is designed for 7th and 8th grade
    students. Here they will learn about student
    government, developing student interest based on
    student body input, and leadership skills.

  • Library Services Programs
  • The Library is a shared resource for the
    students and staffs of both Tierra Linda and the
    Charter Learning Center. It is open between the
    hours of 730 a.m. and 400 p.m. Monday -
    Thursday, and 730 a.m. - 230 p.m. on Fridays.
  • With a collection of over 10,000 books,
    videotapes, and audiotapes, the Library is the
    campus research facility to support classroom
    curriculum as well as to provide books and
    magazines for recreational reading. Parents and
    campus staff can also find resources in the
    Professional and Parent Education sections of the
    Library.
  • The 10 iMacs provide students with the ability
    to conduct their own searches through the
    automated library management system to locate
    material in the Library. Students can also use
    them to access the Internet to conduct research
    for classroom assignments and projects.The
    Communication Lab, with its 28 iMacs, printer,
    and two scanners, supports the afternoon
    technology electives.
  • During lunch recess, students enjoy playing
    board games or reading and doing homework in the
    Library they can also play computer games at
    that time in the Communications Lab. After-school
    programs such as Healthy Cities tutors, Chess
    Club, and Computer Club use the Library for their
    meetings.

Guided Study230-300
  • What is Guided Study?
  • Guided Study happens Mondays, Tuesdays, and
    Thursdays after school for 30 minutes in a
    teachers classroom. During this time students
    can visit their teacher to do homework, study for
    a test, or get some extra support academically.
    If they need more time to do their homework, they
    can go to the library until 400pm.

What is School Loop?
  • School Loop is an online application for Middle
    students and parents to communicate with their
    teachers, as an alternative to e-mail. It allows
    staff to access each student workload and grades
    and provides digital lockers to store and share
    files.

Detention
  • Students will be notified when they are required
    to serve a detention. The detention may be served
    as a lunch duty at the next available lunch
    period (may be the same day). Students will eat
    their lunch first and then report to the
    supervisor for duty. If a student does not show
    up for a detention on the day it is assigned, the
    lunch duty will be doubled. Repeated failure to
    serve detentions will result in further
    disciplinary actions including possible
    suspension.
  • Please know that if your child is late to school
    more then 3 times, they will be issued a
    detention.

  • If a student violates the Honor Code, then s/he
    will have a consequence depending on the severity
    determined by a staff member.

Advisory/Homeroom Program    
  •     Your child will be matched with an Advisor at
    the beginning of the year and will stay with that
    Advisor for all four years at TL. The mission of
    Tierra Linda's Advisory Program is for students
    to connect with an adult on campus, which is not
    based on grading but on relating, between
    students and educators in a meaningful way among
    academia.

Parent Teacher Conferences
  • How can we contact teachers for parent
    conferences?
  •      There are about 64 students to each teacher
    so it will not be as flexible as elementary
    schools to set up parent conferences but TL
    teachers try to be as accommodating and flexible
    as possible.
