money per sick leave days when a teacher retires
than does Bedford County. Bedford County has not
increased this amount in over 20 years.
  • At least 60 per day Botetourt County
  • 40 per day Salem City
  • 35 per day Roanoke County,
    Franklin County
  • 30 per day Lynchburg City,
    Campbell County
  • 25 per day Amherst County,
    Appomattox County, Bedford
    County
  • 20 per day Roanoke City
  • 10 per day Pittsylvania County

21
What this all means
  • While Bedford County Public Schools is
accomplishing great things, we are losing the
people that helped get us here and are not
competing effectively to bring in the best.
  • Compensation is identified by research done by
sources as either a primary or secondary concern
of people who are employed here.

22
What this means to our children
  • High teacher turnover rates mean more teachers
with minimal experience in the field, more
discipline issues, and chance for further
    turnover.
  • Administrative staff spends more time on training
or retraining new employees instead of improving
on the delivery of the good things we have.
  • Most importantly, it means that there is a
detriment to the quality of education that our
    children receive.
