4Why Do a General Plan Update Now?
5A General Plan Update is needed to
- Provide for greater integration of previous
community planning initiatives (elements). - Ensure greater consistency between those
community planning elements. - Reinforce the goals, objectives, policies, and
programs contained in the various plan elements. - Identify additional community planning
opportunities. - Provide a vehicle for greater inter-board/commissi
on and inter-departmental communication and
cooperation. - Provide a vehicle for greater community-wide
public participation (which has not been realized
since the early 90s).

22Staff anticipates that the planning approach will
require the Steering Committee members to
- Attend one (1) joint steering/working committee
meeting per month evenings (10). - Participate in kick-off meeting 4 hour
orientation session along with the necessary
preparation. - Participate in one (1) 4-hour community workshop
session along with the necessary preparation. - Note Staff anticipates that the Steering
Committee will meet the first Thursday of each
month, starting in April.
