History

• The Assiniboine and the cree Indians lived in
  what is now Winnipeg area before the first White
  people arrived. In 1738, Sicurde La Vereundrye,
  a French-Canadian fur trader,became the first
  white person to reach what is now Winnipeg.

• Winnipegs Government is a mayor-council
  government.
• In each of the Winnipeg 15 voting areas elect on
  a councilor to the city council. The serve a
  three-year term.
