P-12 Enduring Understandings These apply to all
students at all grade levelsthey are considered
big ideas that content within each grade level
can be aligned.
1. Students will understand that governments are
formed and structured to address the needs of
citizens. 2. Students will understand that
American representative democracy as defined in
foundational documents is structured to address
the needs of citizens. 3. Students will
understand that diverse individuals must be
engaged and be responsible participants in order
to sustain a democracy. 4. Students will
understand that governments interact and reflect
cultural values, ideals, beliefs, and histories.

- The first network trainings focused on assessment
literacy. Emphasis was placed on assessment OF
and FOR learning, the revised CCA 4.1 and DOK,
and designing and providing feedback to multiple
choice and open response assessment items. -

- Identify a problem that can be resolved by public

- In addition to face-to-face meetings, we also use
Black Board to support the civics network. - Black Board acts as an online learning community
by providing teachers with the opportunity to
chat with other social studies educators and
share and access social studies resources.
