INFORMATION GOT FROM GOOGLE
HISTORY
  • Evolved from EEPROM
  • Got the name from Toshipa to show how it can be
    erased faster
  • Constructed either NOR or NAND gates
  • Toshiba developed NAND in 1989
  • Intel developed NOR IN 1988

4
DESCRIPTION
  • Rewritable memory chip
  • Can hold its contents without power
  • Smaller in size
  • Lighter in weight
  • Has no movable parts
  • Available in various capacity

5
ITS APPLICATION
  • BIOS chip in computers
  • Compact Flash i.e in digital cameras
  • SmartMedia
  • Memory Stick
  • PCMCIA Type I and Type II memory cards (used as
    solid-state disks in laptops)
  • Memory cards for video game

6
ITS LIMITATION
  • More volatile for example when a computer is
    repeatedly booted up using one.

7
ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA
HISTORY
  • Invented by Dr. Fujio Masuoka in 1984
  • It was first presented at IEEE 1984
  • Introduced asNAND flash at ISSCC in 1989 by
    Toshiba
  • Introduced as the first commercial NOR type flash
    chip in 1988 by intel

8
ITS DESCRIPTION
  • Its a non-volatile Computer memory
  • Need no power to maintain its data
  • can be electrically erased and reprogrammed
  • It is easy to access and read data
  • Cannot be deatroyed by ordinary physical means
  • Its cheap,less than EEPROM

9
ITS APPLICATION
  • Used in digital cameras
  • Used in mobile phones
  • Used in USB flash drives
  • Used in laptops
  • MP3 players

10
LIMITATION
  • Must be erased a block at a time
  • It has finite number of erase-write cycles
    compared to hard disk drive
  • Cost per byte is higher than the corresponding
cost of a hard disk drive

11
CONSLUSION
  • There is inconsistency of information over the
    origin of the name Flash
  • In both wikipedia and google the information is
    more of advertising than academic
  • using more than one browzer to get information
    makes our search much better
  • Wikipedia compared to google is better because it
is devoted to explain than advertise
