2Purpose of Pre-Approval
- The pre-approval process creates an avenue for
organizations to get a program pre-approved for a
certain number of recertification credits before
the program occurs. - Provides certificant with assurance that the
program has met our recertification requirements.
- Boosts attendance
- Provides chapter member benefit
- Pre-Approved programs are provided with the HR
Certification Institutes seal of pre-approval. - Use on marketing materials to advertise and/or
certificate of completion.
3Who can submit programs for approval?
- Any organization that conducts educational
programs that add to an individuals knowledge of
HR would qualify to participate in the
Pre-approval program. - Learning objective of all programs submitted for
pre-approval credit must tie to the HR
Certification Institutes body of knowledge.
(www.hrci.org/Certification/bok) - For specific credit hours in Strategic
Management, the topic must directly tie to the
Strategic Management category of the SPHR body of
knowledge. - For specified credit hours in International
Management, the topic must directly tie to the
GPHR body of knowledge.
4What programs qualify?
- Educational activities that are at least one hour
in length. - The presentation must be at least one hour in
length. It may consist of a 45-minute
presentation with 15 minutes for questions and
answers. - Programs with no food being served, consumed, or
cleared during the event. - This is an International Association for
Continuing Education and Training (IACET)
guideline that the HR Certification Institute
follows. IACET sets the standards for continuing
education programs for which the Approved
Provider Programs follows. - Programs that do not include any chapter
business.
5What programs do not qualify?
- Events that are designed for personal rather than
professional development. - Events where the educational portion is less than
45 minutes, with no QA. - Events where a meal is served in conjunction with
the educational portion. - Events that have already occurred at the time of
review. - Roundtable discussions.
- Game show formats, even if the content is
HR-related. - Tours of legislative or industry offices.
6What type of programs qualify for strategic
management credit?
- The Strategic Management domain of the SPHR Body
of Knowledge encompasses HR responsibilities that
fall OUTSIDE of the traditional human resources
function. - Business-related topics such as finance,
marketing, information technology, etc is
considered Strategic Management. - Topics related to the general business
environment, - Industry practices and developments,
technological developments, economic environment,
and labor pool/demographic trends. - Strategic planning, budgeting, corporate social
responsibility, corporate governance/ethics and
due diligence for mergers acquisitions. - Aligning human capital activities with the
business plan such as - Developing metrics to measure HRs contributions.
- Integrating technology into HR applications.
- Leadership development systems tied to
organizational goals.
It is important to note that a strategic
approach to an issue or developing a strategy
does not necessarily qualify it.
7How to Submit a program
- This is a simple process that is done completely
on line at www.hrci.org - Step 1 Login
- Step 2 Enter and submit program information
- Step 3 Await Decision
- Step 4 Market Pre-Approved program
8Step 1 Login to hrci.org
- Step 1 Login to your chapter account at
www.hrci.org - Click on the Pre-Approval Programs tab on the top
of the page. - Choose the AFC AP Account Login option from
the drop-down menu. - Then enter your username and password.
- Most SHRM-affiliated chapters and state councils
have accounts. - If you need help finding your account info email
afc_at_hrci.org. - If you need to create a new account because an
account for you was not already established in
our system go to www.hrci.org and click on the
Pre-Approval Programs tab on the top of the page
and then choose the AFC AP Account Login
option from the drop-down menu. At the login,
click on the First Time Here? link and follow
all the prompts.
9Step 2 Submit a Program
- Step 2 Click on Submit New Program
- An online submission form will then appear.
- Fields that you must complete in order for your
program to be reviewed are - Title of Program
- Start and End date/time
- Activity Type
- Location
- Speaker biographies and specific learning
objectives - Number of credit hours and specified credit hours
You must submit the application at least FOUR
weeks before the event date or program may be
denied. Programs over 3 hours must include an
agenda with session times and titles with the
program submission.
10Step 3 Notification of Program Approval or
Denial
- Step 3 Await Approval or Denial
- Once approved, the organizations contact person
will be sent an approval email to the email
address on record. - Approval emails will include
- Program ID Number
- Title of program
- Event start and end dates
- Number of recertification credit hours awarded
- Specified credit hours awarded, if any
- Pre-Approved seal attached with sample language
to assist in promoting the program
11Notification of Program Denial
- The denial email will explain why the program was
not approved. Programs may not be approved for
several reasons - Not HR related
- The event has already occurred at the time of
review - Misuse of the Pre-Approval seal and/or sample
language - Evidence of misleading marketing strategies
- The event is considered personal rather than
professional development - Program is not a formal educational program
- If a program is denied, additional information
may be submitted by responding to the denial
email. However, this additional information
should be specific and tie to the bodies of
knowledge in order to be reviewed again.
12Notification of Program Incomplete Status
- If we are unable to determine if credit should be
awarded based on the information provided, an
incomplete email will be sent to the contact
person on file. - The contact person should respond to this email
with the necessary information as soon as
possible to ensure that the program review is
completed by the program date.
13Step 4 Market your Pre-Approved Program
- Step 4 Market your Pre-Approved Program
- Use the Pre-Approved seal
- Can only be used in conjunction with Pre-Approved
programs. - Put on marketing materials and on the host
organizations web site next to the program that
has been pre-approved. - Must use seal in conjunction with the following
disclaimer - The use of this seal is not an endorsement by
the HR Certification Institute of the quality of
the program. It means that this program has met
the HR Certification Institutes criteria to be
pre-approved for recertification credit. - Misuse of the seal may result in restrictions on
the organization from submitting future programs. - Publish the sample language and program ID in
on-site program materials and/or certificate of
completion - The ID is only to be communicated to individuals
who have attended the program. - The program ID may not be communicated after the
event has ended without verification of
attendance.
